Publisher's summary

When Jack Bogle speaks, people listen. A leading thinker and visionary who single-handedly transformed the mutual fund business, his name is synonymous with excellence in mutual funds as Warren Buffett's is with excellence in stock investing. This eye-opening work examines the fundamentals of mutual fund investing and shows investors how to revolutionize their portfolios by embracing simplicity and then avoiding industry pitfalls.

Diehard Convert

John Bogle's words are insightful, honest, and life changing if you take them to heart. I fully recommend this book if you want to learn how the real mutual fund industry works and how low costs, low turn-over and the act of long term investing will make you more successful than most your friends or neighbors.

Directionally correct, but outdated

This was not a value purchase and I think that there are far better alternatives. The main take-away is that low cost index funds, properly allocated beat actively managed funds. There is a strong recommendation to avoid international funds, which is a big miss as asset allocation models of today include international investments usually proportional to capitalization. For the price and the content better value can be found elsewhere. That being said, we all owe Bogle gratitude for being an early pioneer in asset allocation and low cost funds.
