Publisher's summary

Common Core is a set of new national education standards in the United States. Though the movement started at the state level, it is an attempt at creating a nationwide standardized curriculum for math and English literature for students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade. Common Core is important because almost all of the States have adopted its standards. This means that your child's curriculum for this upcoming school year will likely change. The standardized testing methods will also change, as the tests are considered to be more rigorous than the previous ones. Your child will likely learn new ways to approach literary texts and math problems. Some of these curricula changes will be significant for some schools, while they may be minimal for others.

Very odd

I like common core. This book is horrible. If you want to get drunk, have a shot every time the author ends a sentence with a preposition.

What disappointed you about Common Core Mathematics: Teaching Kids Common Core?

It has virtually nothing to do with Common Core Mathematics.

What was most disappointing about Julie Thompson’s story?

I bought this to get an understanding of Common Core Mathematics. This book is basically chapter after chapter of propaganda. You could substitute any program or phrase for "Common Core" and the result would be the same. After 9 chapters you learn that "most people like Common Core", "Common Core is standardized", and "Common Core is good". No details about method, course content, what is controversial or generally anything of interest.

Which scene was your favorite?

Every chapter is the same repetitive information. It's like the infomercials from "Starship Troopers"...only less entertaining and informative.

What character would you cut from Common Core Mathematics: Teaching Kids Common Core?

Definitely no "Common Core"! He, she or it still remains a mystery! Maybe later in the series, we will learn more about this mysterious, but apparently awesome figure in the shadows...
