Publisher's summary

Third Edition. Significantly revised and updated in August 2013 to coincide with print edition. A comprehensive guidebook to Comet ISON, C/2012 S1 (ISON), which could by year-end 2013 become ‘The Great Comet of 2013’, possibly ‘The Comet of the Century’ and maybe even a ‘once-in-a-civilization’ comet. This book, the Kindle version of which will be regularly revised during the rest of 2013 (for free downloads), captures all that is known of this sungrazing (but not a Kreutz) comet, which, with luck, on Boxing Day, i.e., December 26, 2013, will flyby Earth at a (very safe) distance of 39.9 million miles. There is, however, a 20% chance that this comet, like so many other sungrazers may not make it around the Sun intact. This book, in chapter 1 itself, looks at the five potential return path scenarios. This, in reality’ is a ‘2-in-1’ book: an in-depth guide to C/2012 S1 (ISON) overlaid on top of an up to date, all encompassing primer on comets and cometary lore. So ISON is always discussed in the context of other ‘great’ comets. ISON could end up as being one of the brightest comets seen over the last few centuries. This book discusses the others. Ditto when it comes to sungrazing and close encounters with the Earth. There is also extensive descriptions of the Oort cloud, cometary names, the anatomy of comets and trysts with spacecrafts. Check the ‘Table of Contents’. The Kindle version of the book is priced at US $3.99 to reflect the 39,893,844 mile separation between Earth and this comet on Boxing Day. Since the author’s middle name is ‘typo’ it is inevitable that this book, which was put together in three months (with five weeks of that disrupted by the papal transition during which the author published three Kindle books) given the time criticality of the subject. The ‘typos’, if true to form, will be limited to spelling and grammar, rather than matters of factual accuracy. As many ‘typos’ will be fixed in each Kindle revision. IF the ‘typos’ bother you (though 50% of written English is redundant to enable a brain to gloss over them), please return the book and get a full refund – rather than complaining about it. Go find another book on the subject without ‘typos’. ISON, if it survives perihelion, will be a holiday comet – its naked eye exploits occurring in the main between late November and year end. This book is meant to help you revel in the whole C/2012 S1 (ISON) experience. Edition 3. August 31, 2013. There are slight differences between the print and Kindle edition.
