Publisher's summary

Did you know that God forbids the tying of shoelaces on Saturdays? Or that humans emit a colorful aura that can be discerned only with a Third Eye? That bountiful harvest requires the flinging of a live goat from a church bell tower? That instead of wishing upon a star, we can wish upon a...cow? Well into the 21st century, our species continues to participate in beliefs and customs that seem more suited to the Bronze Age than the Information Age, some of which involve poisonous snakes, holy smoke, urine bubbles, crystals, tarot cards, aliens, costumed virgins, and, of course, an offering plate. Join Seth Andrews for a random romp across the planet and a humorous look at some of humanity's Sacred Cows.

Light-hearted, easy listening

A great introduction for anyone new to atheism. I'm normally one to listen to the heavier audio books on atheism and epistemology but Seth (makes it clear that this IS NOT one of those books) is great if you don't want anything too hard to follow. Delivered perfectly as always, his deep soothing tones and lighter subject matter were a joy to listen to. This is a skim over some of both popular and obscure religion's bat s### crazy ideas and beliefs.

Great Book

As always, Seth was entertaining and gave a great performance, while also informing. The book was easy and fun to listen to, just like the podcasts.

Great humorous listen!

Several times, it was hard not to laugh and think "People actually believe *that*?!". If you're looking to find out just how weird many human beliefs are, even beliefs as socially accepted as mainstream religions, this book is a great jumping-on point laced with skewering humor.

I really enjoyed this book and the look at ridiculous traditions around the world. Seth’s voice is so soothing.

Like listening to a podcast.

You can count on Seth to deliver above and beyond narration. Great job. Whether you agree with the subject? Being an atheist who found my way out, I would recommend to those on a similar path or those who made it.

So great

Honestly I don't know how this book looks in print; I'm sure it's great with the pictures. But damn, Seth narrates it perfectly and hysterically. I was a massive fan of the Thinking Atheist before this listen, and I'm still a massive fan afterwards. Well done sir! Highly recommend to every single human being!

Funny light hearted look at the sacred

I loved every moment of this. Only Seth could see the absolute humor in something as important to the human experience as religion and its beliefs and rituals. I had a blast. there was never a dull moment. I'm going to get the e-book too to see the cartoons.

An illuminating and entertaining trip

Seth Andrews never fails being very well researched and articulate. His own voice doing narration is a definite bonus in this audio book. He takes you on a trip around the globe of religious tradition and practices, leaving you at every story wondering who in their right mind performs these rituals. It's funny and at some times slightly alarming, but always interesting with Seth guiding you.
