Editorial reviews

Marga Gomez comes out swinging in her comedy album Hung Like a Fly, and doesn’t stop until everyone is cramped with laughter. Gomez is part Puerto Rican, part Cuban, fully out as a lesbian, and fully committed to confronting all kinds of social niceties. With a high-energy delivery Gomez pokes fun at Spanish-language television, the lack of diversity in Utah, camping, and the gay and straight community alike. Gomez balances her social criticism well with comedy and has produced a raunchy and entertaining album that is deserving multiple listens.

Publisher's summary

Meet Marga Gomez: a Latina who can't do the Macarena; an out, proud lesbian willing to undergo a painful bikini wax so she can audition for Baywatch; and a comedian who defies preconceptions. This underground debutante has been featured on HBO, Showtime, and Comedy Central. She has performed all over the country, from Yankee Stadium to universities, concert halls - and even a bowling alley in El Paso. Aiming her material at everyone, Marga has developed a national following by blending social commentary with raunchiness and declaring, "I don't care if you're gay or straight, what matters is if you're a top or a bottom."

For Adults Only: Explicit language. Must be 18 years of age to purchase.

Cheeky Fun

Okay, so you shouldn't play this around small children (you'll have a lot of explaining to do), but I Gomez cracked me up. Yeah, there is a lot of lesbian related material, but not all. There is solid talent behind the material and her delivery. Recording quality is not great, but I've found myself keeping this one on the iPod for an occasional laugh.

Not Funny

Lots of Rah-rah pro-lesbian ranting, more like feminist rally than a comedy routine. Not a lot of laughs for this listener anyway.
