Publisher's Summary

From breakout stand-up comedian Iliza Shlesinger comes a subversively funny collection of essays and observations on a confident woman's approach to friendship, singlehood, and relationships.

"Girl Logic" is Iliza's term for the way women obsess over details and situations that men don't necessarily even notice. She describes it as a characteristically female way of thinking that appears to be contradictory and circuitous but is actually a complicated and highly evolved way of looking at the world. When confronted with critical decisions about dating, sex, work, even getting dressed in the morning, Iliza argues that women will by nature consider every repercussion of every option before making a move toward what they really want. And that kind of holistic thinking can actually give women an advantage in what is still a male world.

In Iliza's own words: "Understanding Girl Logic is a way of embracing both our aspirations and our contradictions. GL is the desire to be strong and vulnerable. It's wanting to be curvy, but rail thin at the same time. It's striving to kick ass in a man's world while still being loved by the women around you.

"This book is also for me, because apparently expounding on a stage for two hours a night wasn't enough. (Trust me, if I could start a cult I would, but I hate the idea of deliberately dying in a group.)"

A delight

Resonates so well on many levels...most definitely not just a book for 20 and 30 something's figuring it out ...I'm a 48 year old (divorced, no kids, now with a long term partner) woman and Iliza's message is validating and just spot on. She's super funny, but more importantly, she's smart as shit. Be a decent human to others, ask for what you want, and be honest and kind to yourself.

Great to hear her voice/inflection

Would you consider the audio edition of Girl Logic to be better than the print version?

I loved the audio book more than the print version - as she adds a few lines, and shares her "voices" - which makes you laugh out loud!

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

The best part of this book helps you to think about how you are living your own life. She encourages you to ditch regret and second guessing yourself, which is really what most women need reminding of!

Which character – as performed by Mayim Bialik and Iliza Shlesinger – was your favorite?

Both were fantastic

If you could give Girl Logic a new subtitle, what would it be?

Stand up for yourself!

I enjoy this book. Its helping my self-confidence.

I like this book. Its helping my self-esteem, and helping me not to overthink on everything. I'm so glad I pick this book. I'm becoming a better person to myself because of it. Thank you Iliza Shlesinger.

Love at first listen

I love Iliza. I've loved her since I first saw her on Netflix. I think she's an awesome comedian and also a very witty and quick feminist. This book was inspirational and made me really want to get back out there and try again. Sometimes the mere effort it takes to try can become overwhelming. But she really makes some great (and inspirational) points about trying and failing or trying and succeeding. I recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of her comedy, to anyone who is stuck in a rut, and to anyone wanting to get a deeper insight into the female mind and all its absurdity.

*Too Fun*

Great mix of A life biography thus far, comedy, and theory. This lady is on the road to somewhere big. And she speaks of how you're on that same road too. Give it a listen. The worst that can happen is being left feeling encouraged, inspired, and having a smile on your face.

Didn't love it...didn't hate it...

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I advise spending the time watching Eliza's Netflix specials instead of listening to this book, Her Netflix specials are waaaay funnier.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I was neither impressed nor disappointed with the ending.

What aspect of Mayim Bialik and Iliza Shlesinger ’s performance would you have changed?

Nothing. Eliza's just funnier on stage than in this audiobook.

Could you see Girl Logic being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Not really.

Very funny and insightful look on a girls mind!

Very funny and insightful commentary on everything from relationships to career. It delves into the nuance of the American female psyche in a way that is informative and entertaining overall a great read!

Funny but Self-Aggrandizing

I think that Iliza is a funny person and I am a fan of her stand-up. She tells funny stories, has some good points but does self-promote quite a bit. After her Deadline interview where she attacked and criticized the stand-up work of all other female comics, I feel her feminist ideals ring hollow. She claims to be supportive and pro-women, especially to those in comedy, but yet she makes negative blanket statements about her peers. I think that her previous comments where she claimed to be the only female comic with a WWII joke ruined the book a bit for me. She makes so many statements about how women need to support and uplift one another (completely true) but then goes and attacks other women in her industry in an interview. She also makes blanket statements throughout the book that I felt were out of place. Overall, the book was okay to me. Funny in some parts, frustrating in others.

Love her!

I have had a copy of the book since it debuted...it sat on my nightstand for months. I am so happy I never had time to read it and I downloaded the audible because having her narrate the book adds so much more to the book! Love it!
