Freaking hilarious!

Where does Dating a Stripper is A Recipe for Perspective rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It isn't really an audiobook, more like a comedy bit.

What other book might you compare Dating a Stripper is A Recipe for Perspective to and why?

None.

Have you listened to any of Patton Oswalt’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is an essay, but it pretty much is a stand-up bit. If you like Oswalt this is really funny.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed... A lot...

Any additional comments?

This is funny and if you are a hard core fan get it. The problem is that it is incredibly short (8 minutes). So, don't waste a credit. It is less than $2 to buy. If you don't like Patton Oswalt pass on this one.

Great way to pass the time waiting for an elevator

What made the experience of listening to Dating a Stripper is A Recipe for Perspective the most enjoyable?

If you have some minor experience with audiobooks, you may have noticed that many audiobooks only have the one narrator throughout the book and it can be difficult to understand or follow. For such a small story, it was great to not have patton oswalt voice himself, the stripper, and his wife

What other book might you compare Dating a Stripper is A Recipe for Perspective to and why?

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell, and only because of the language as well how personal the story was. It just reminds me of Tucker Max's book.

What about Patton Oswalt’s performance did you like?

It was like hearing him on, "The King of Queens" or "United States of Tara"- familiar, nothing extravagant but certainly entertaining.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

too short to be a film obviously

Any additional comments?

Audible should make it a free download as I could not justify spending a credit nor paying for it. Sorry Patton. Also, I wish the book was available in audiobook format in its entirety, not just this small section.

Funny

Funny, even if you are a stripper, you probably know a stripper like this so it’s pretty funny

Stereotypically hilarious!

This short story was hilarious! My ex-best friend is a stripper, they aren't always this crazy, but the 8 minutes I listened to this audiobook brought back very similar memories. I could not stop laughing! This made my night!

Inherently Sparkly

Ms Philips writes with all her sparkly heart, and it shows! Even when her heart is breaking, and what leaks out is pain - the type of pain many women can relate to... Adolescence. Arizona. Hollywood. Parenthood. Marriage. Even some mental illness (depression).

Beyond her relatable honesty, Ms Philips writes believably well. She reads with her heart in her throat - her voice breaking as she recites the hard parts, and then can change to become uplifting and hopeful in the same breath. Aware of the emotional darkness we all visit at some time or another, some for longer or less than others; but with every word, I hear her fighting it, trying to fill the void with her bright and sparkling light. Telling her story but trying so hard to let us know that she may not always be alright, but she is trying - and it is enough.

I bought this book because I liked Ms Philips' character on Cougartown; I was expecting a flight of fancy, some light autobiographical reading that would be funny and endearing like Tina Fey's Bossypants or Amy Schumer's "The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo" - which both also had some heartbreaking parts... But don't we all? Ms Philips tells her own story with the same beauty and strength as many authors before, and gives it that extra personal touch, narrating for herself to relive a history that at times was clearly difficult.

This book wasnt light-hearted or very funny; but it didnt need to be. Her gave me so much more hope than the lightly distracting novel I was expecting.

Thank you for sharing, Ms Philips. I will likely never meet or talk to the actor in person to thank her. I hope this was enough to convey just a fraction of the inspiration and strength her story gave me.

Too caricatured to me

What disappointed you about Dating a Stripper is A Recipe for Perspective?

Kind of funny but a little bit too caricatured. I just didn't like the story and comparisons between wife and Stripper. My own opinion of course

What do you think your next listen will be?

I have no idea yet

What didn’t you like about Patton Oswalt’s performance?

I like his performance, I just didn't like the story.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Dating a Stripper is A Recipe for Perspective?

Just a funny sarcastic story would have been better to me, without the wife in it.
No comparisons.
I did feel like P.Oswalt was trying to get me to have the same opinion than him about his own experience.
Story is kind of funny and sarcastic but I did feel way too much the SHE IS GOOD n THIS ONE IS TERRIBLE and it makes me feel like strippers are all the same, and I refuse to be judgmental on any people whatever they do. Thats how I took it of course.

Any additional comments?

Cool voice and great Performance.

He has a point

This was a great performance by both readers and a great story by Oswalt. It made me search more from him

Terrible, horrible, bad attempt at humor.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone with very dry humor who can dig through the muck to get a tiny laugh out of a bad joke.

Would you ever listen to anything by Patton Oswalt again?

No. Definitely not.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

His voice was speeding through the book and was soooo annoying the way they portrayed the stripper.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Frustration that I spent 3 minutes of my life downloading this book.
