Publisher's summary

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Jan Karon returns - with the story listeners have been waiting for.

Over the course of 10 Mitford novels, fans have kept a special place in their hearts for Dooley Kavanagh, first featured in At Home in Mitford as a barefoot, freckle-faced boy in filthy overalls.

Now, Father Tim Kavanagh's adopted son has graduated from vet school and opened his own animal clinic. Since money will be tight for a while, maybe he and Lace Harper, his once and future soul mate, should keep their wedding simple.

So, the plan is to eliminate the cost of catering and do potluck. Ought to be fun.

An old friend offers to bring his well-known country band. Gratis.

And, once mucked out, the barn works as a perfect venue for seating family and friends.

Piece of cake, right?

In Come Rain or Come Shine, Jan Karon delivers the wedding that millions of Mitford fans have waited for. It's a June day in the mountains, with more than a few creatures great and small, and you're invited - because you're family.

By the way, it's a pretty casual affair, so come as you are and remember to bring a tissue or two. After all, what's a good wedding without a good cry?

John McDonough IS the voice of Mitford

I love all of Jan Karon’s books, and though I have read many of them in the traditional book format, I have listened to all of them either on audio cassette, audio cd, or now, through the Audible app. Others have done very good audio versions of a couple of Karon’s books, but for me, the characters truly come alive when I hear the stories narrated by John McDonough. I highly recommend these selections on Audible.

Dooley and Lace getMarried

Loved the story. At times it was hard to differentiate who was talking or thinking.

Wow this series is what I wish the world was like!

I want to live in Mitford. I don't want the series to ever end. I was so excites that another book was done and that the kids were getting married. I really appreciate how Jan Karon captures the wedding ceremony and you feel like you have just been to church and heard the best sermon of your life.
I pray that the series continues with Lace and Dooley starting their own family along with Beth and Sammy. I would enjoy hearing about Father Tim and Cindy enjoying holidays including Halloween with Jack Tyler. I would really like to hear more about Puny and Mrs. Pringle. I would also like another book with Father Tim and Cynthia going some place just for the summer and perhaps to the church they were at a fee books back near an island. Maybe there would be an opportunity for the kids to adopt there and perhaps the great organist would appear again!!! Keep writing! You bring us all so much joy.

Best yet !

I felt like I had come home after being away too long. This is my favorite of all the Mitford and Father Tim book. It was tender, real engagingly updated. Imagine Father Tim texting! Yet it remained true to the old charactrrd: of course he can't take pictures with his phone! Please, Jan Karon, let's have another Dooley and Lace book soon.

Another heart moving addition to Father Tim's story

Everything was wonderful and as always brings light to your day! The only thing I will say is the producers of the audio should add some space in between the people taking. Sometimes it was hard to tell were one person stopped and another started, especially because most of the sentences started with He or She. But that was minor. Loved loved it. Keep going Jan!!!!

Dooley and Lace tie the knot

I loved this book, but I will say that it’s hard to distinguish who is talking/thinking many times in this narration. I love John McDonough, so I think it’s how the writing shifts. Also, there are really no Father Tim gold nuggets of insight that make you think in this book, nor in the one just previous to it. It’s as though it’s someone else writing and not Karon.

What we've been waiting for, but....

I'm guessing that all readers of the Father Tim books having been waiting for this book for a long time. while it was wonderful to find out how "it" happens, it was also to much at one time. I felt like Ms. Karon was but three books of info into one. That being said, I couldn't stop myself from listening to it almost straight thru. One of the joys of a series book is wanting to know what the characters have been up to since you last saw them.

This book won't disappoint!

What did you love best about Come Rain or Come Shine?

Jan Karon just gets better and better with each book in the Mitford series! I hope she writes another one soon!

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved all the characters, but my favorite character in this book was probably Lace. She is so fresh and real.

Have you listened to any of John McDonough’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

John McDonough was excellent once again. I can't imagine any other narrator doing this book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listened to this book a little each day as time allowed, mostly while driving, and I didn't want it to end!
