Ever dreamed of being a fly on the wall?

This book felt personalized for me: running stream of consciousness, secrets, humor, secrets, revelations, betrayals, connections, repercussions, secrets, set in my adopted home town...and did I mention secrets? ALL THE SECRETS!
I didn't turn it off until it was done.

Marigold is the quintessential middle child. Leaned on. Overlooked. Left to blossom on her own, her life is okay, but nothing spectacular on the surface. The man she loves is about to marry someone else. And then...she lands in the coma ward ("vegetable patch") of a hospital after a head-on collision that everybody else walked away from. I'm sure there was a good reason Ms. Bond chose "Brady" (Grady) hospital for her setting, but if you ever have brain trauma in Atlanta - go to Emory.

While in her coma, she sometimes sleeps, but often is aware. She hears everything going on around her and, for some reason, people begin to confide in her. She also learns secrets from the people who behave as if she's not even in the room. Juggling all this information is probably how she keeps from going batty while she's lying there, trapped in her own body. Not all the patients in her room handle the situation as well as she does.

There are a lot of shady characters in this book. Her family and an opportunistic ambulance chaser turn her into a media sensation. Her adorable, but gullible aunt brings around a con artist. Even her friend and roommate isn't always trustworthy.
And WHO is sending pictures of her to the Internet Tabloids?

The narrator, Maureen Jones, does the humor and intrigue great justice. Her southern accent is good, though I did occasionally detect some random Canadian. Her timing is spot on and I'll look for more of her work to enjoy.

Honestly, I wouldn't have minded a bit more righteous revenge, but maybe I'm a little meaner than Marigold.

Highly recommend.

Perfect book for airplane travel and chores

I enjoyed this easy to follow (you know it’s easy to get distracted when listening to audibles) but still surprising and unexpected novel. I also enjoy the narrator and have listened to her often. Worth the money.

Couldn't turn it off

I just finished this book and am sad to see it end. At times it was side splitting funny and immensely sad. I just couldn't get over what people will confess to if they think that the person can't hear/understand them. Then when the person 'wakes up' how terrified they are that their secrets will come out. It is a very long book but so worth every minute. The narrator was excellent at the different voices/people and very consistent throughout the book. She brought to life every character and made the book more enjoyable. I am glad that I waited until the series ended because I don't have the patience to follow a daily serial. I am going to definitely look into Stephanie Bond's other books.

Fun, poignant at times and enjoyable. Some may see it as slow. I enjoyed the story and the podcast.

Slow Moving Story

I love this author and I'm a big fan of the narrator but this story was a "yawn". Bonds clever plot twists are all there but it just moved too slowly. If it was a library book I would have returned it unfinished. Still a big fan of Stephanie Bond.

Funny, witty, and delightfully entertaining.

I've listened to this book multiple times and I smile throughout it. The book is light, and funny. Smartly written. The narrarator is great with the voices and her interpretation of the context.
I don't often give 5 stars but this one deserves every one of them.

Gripping!

The best Stephanie Bond book I have listened to. She melds compassion with suspense which left me laughing at the humour while edge of my seat nervous about what might happen next. I was completely immersed in the Comma Girl's drama, willing good things to happen while the constant build up of tension continued to a burst at the end. Yet all the way through the author demonstrates fantastic empathy with people as she creates completely believable characters despite their slightly overblown bearing.

Grr it’s 28 days until my next credit!

If there is a terminology for a listening book akin to “couldn’t put the book down” - this would fulfil it!
And a great ending - though you would expect that so it’s not a spoiler! Enjoy

Great Serial

It was great to have this daily serial in one complete audio book.

The characters are occasionally annoying, but a true reflection of families in reality.

Easy narration and you just want to keep listening to hear the next surprise ;)
