Publisher's summary

The United States is home to 86.4 million owned cats, and 52 percent of owners own more than one cat. That means more furry love for owners, but also can put your cats' tails in a twist over that (HISSS!) new feline friend. From conflicts over favorite sleep spots to sharing potty facilities, adding new pets rubs fur the wrong way and creates hairy situations for everyone - including you.

This new guide gives owners all the must-knows about cat behavior, whether they share their home with a single feline or a clowder of cat companions. You'll learn why cats act with cat-egorical aggression, and learn how to soothe the growls and turn your household into a peaceable kingdom. You'll find detailed, prescriptive, how-to advice focused on the most common problems found in the multi-cat household. Use these fun techniques to calm fears, explain cat body language, and strengthen the bond you share with your cats. Step-by-step tips from this award-winning author and certified animal behavior consultant explain how to:

  • Recognize and diffuse cat-to-cat aggression
  • Settle disputes over territory, potty problems and mealtime woes
  • Train your cat to walk on leash, come when called and more
  • Choose an appropriate furry friend that resident cats welcome with open "paws"
  • Introduce the new arrival (including babies, kids, and dogs) to the current cats
  • Solve common pet peeves: meowing, clawing, countertop cruising, door dashing
  • Understand weird behaviors: phone attraction, mirror fear, "elevator butt", and toilet pests

Fun, practical, and eminently informative, ComPETability helps owners devise strategies that enable multiple cats to live in harmony within the same household. Written by one of America's premier pet experts, the book explains everything the loving cat owner needs to know. Most importantly, ComPETability provides crucial tips on how to evaluate and match your pets' personalities, improve their relationships, and make your home a sanctuary for cat fun and peace.

All cat owners need this book!

It his author ha a series of pet rearing books. I read the book about cats, and even though I have had cats for many years, this book taught me invaluable information. The author organized each chapter by different topics, eg feeding, stress, sleeping. The informs
Film was not mundane or obvious. The narrator was smooth and interesting.

Taking care of a pet is as difficult as chillsrearing(well, almost).
It takes a village to raise a cat!

very helpful! ❤

this book helped us tremendously to understand why our number one cat got grumpier and grumpier and even did not come home overnight after we had to rescue a poor kitten someone obviously dumped on our farm during a horrible rainstorm.... she tolerates a tomcat in the house already, but this was too much!! So I turned to this book and got very helpful insights on how to handle this peculiar situation hopefully successful..... she is already very responsive to her being treated special since she is miss no.1.

Very helpful ideas for multicat homes.

I have always had cats and have read cat books, and still learned helpful new information. If you have more than one cat, this is well worth a listen... though probably best in print so it could be a refence; I listened twice which helped the retention of relevant information.

As to the reading, it should have been done by someone else. I liked hearing the author's passion but her odd stocatto reading of the book took away from her many cute puns and word play.

Cat Nap!!

The most boring cat book I've listened to ever! DO NOT BUY! It's absolutely awful, the last chapter is nothing but the appendix. Terrible slow, painful and Very uninformative, non-helpful guide.
