Publisher's Summary

Blending fact and fiction, Colombiano is a powerful and heart-rending story of revenge and war, set in Colombia.

In Colombia you have to pick a side. Or one will be picked for you....

All Pedro Gutiérrez cares about is fishing, playing pool and his girlfriend Camila’s promise to sleep with him on his 16th birthday. But his life is ripped apart when guerrilla soldiers callously execute his father in front of him, and he and his mother are banished from their farm.

Swearing vengeance against the five men responsible, Pedro, with his best friend Palillo, joins an illegal paramilitary group, where he is trained to fight, kill and crush any sign of weakness.

But as he descends into a world of unspeakable violence, Pedro must decide how far he is willing to go. Can he stop himself before he becomes just as ruthless as those he is hunting? Or will his dark obsession cost him all he loves?

From innocent teenage love to barbaric torture...from cruel despots to cocaine traficantes...from seedy drug markets to brutal battlefields...Colombiano is a blockbuster revenge thriller and an electrifying coming-of-age story.

Really enjoyed it

At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like the narrator but I have to say he did an excellent job. I really enjoyed this audiobook. I went searching for other books by Rusty Young after randomly coming across a copy of Marching Powder back in college. I was not disappointed and I will be one of the first to purchase if Rusty Young writes another book.

Truly Amazing story!

This is an amazing insight into the ongoing battle between the FARC and the Autodefensas which was truly insightful and entertaining at the same time. A real gem for anyone interested in Colombia’s darker side before it flourished into the amazing country that it is today. I commend the author for his ability to make this audio book impossible to stop listening to once you get started!

What a story!

Absolutely loved this story. Fantastic plot & characters, but what made the book for me is Rusty's skill at painting a picture through words: Fear, anger, sorrow, pity, determination, revenge, they're all covered with ease, along with visual pictures of the harsh jungle environment. Cannot wait for the next book.

A Compelling Yarn that goes on...

Having read Marching Powder I was intrigued to see whether Rusty Young could produce another compelling story. He does! This is an absorbing yarn that draws you in and carries you along. However it feels directionless at times, as if the writer is unsure where the story should go as it ploughs through its 160 chapters. Despite the merits of the story the narration annoyed me, with some very poor characterisations at times.

An amazing story by an amazing author!

After reading his first book, Marching Powder, I could not imagine a better book. But I was wrong. COLUMBIANO, Rusty Young's second book was gripping and I couldn't stop listening. Spoken by Rusty and Brian Ramos bring the book to life. 9 hours of tension!!! Must read AFTER Marching Powder...
