Publisher's summary

When 18-year-old Kara Jones gets into a car accident on the way home from college, she's left with more than a few bruised ribs, a busted cell phone, and a totaled car. After a slip-up at the hospital, she’s shaken to discover that her family isn't all it seems. And now her mother's strange behavior and willingness to do anything to protect her secrets - including pulling Kara out of school - have Kara floundering in the dark.

Enter Derek Miller, a former classmate who's dealing with family issues of his own. His nerdy charm is too much for Kara to resist, and she's even more amazed when he agrees to help her dig into her mother's past. Together, they investigate her mother's old friends and boyfriends, hoping to discover who Kara really is. Instead, they find disturbing connections to the dark history of Kent State University, and an ever expanding maze of mystery surrounding Kara's birth.

As Kara and Derek chase secrets, she realizes he's the only person she can trust. But as they get closer to the truth, the disturbing answers reveal a web of evil far darker and further-reaching than they'd imagined, leaving Kara to wish she'd never asked the questions in the first place.

Poor Little Kara!

First of all let me say that I really, really liked this book a lot! There was just this one little thing that happened throughout the book that irritated me. Every new piece of information that Cara got we would have to hear about her stomach flip-flopping her head exploding bile in her mouth ET see I thought maybe she should give up her researching and go see a doctor. I also found her reactions to be over the top I mean the things she finds out in the book or very life-changing not just for her but for her family and yet every piece of information she is given she acts as if it is a personal blow to her. I know this is making it sound as if I didn’t like the boat I really did the story it was very original I definitely was in love with Derek I thought he was a sweetie. I know the information she found out did have something to do with her or her life but it didn’t personally affect anything. She kept saying she had to meet this person so she could know who she was as if up until the moment she meets this person she is clueless as to who Kara Smith is. Again let me just say I really did like the book but I know for a fact that no matter how devastated someone is there adrenaline cannot stay on heightened alert and definitely it only last so long and then you crash but you cannot stay on the sustain high level of endorphins forever that is not how emotions work. So I guess that is what really irritated me but even if you could maybe she’s just overdramatic I don’t know it sounds like I don’t like this book I really dead it was just that one thing. That is why I didn’t give any spoilers because I do highly recommend this book just know that one character is overly dramatic in a big way and it is the main character she is very likable I just think it’s the repetitiveness of her over dramatized emotions. But do read this book it is worth it it is the original story and one I highly recommend. Despite what this review sounds like LOL!

Collision

The book was OK, but I found it slow at the beginning. It didn't grab me and it had some slow moments. I did not connect with the main character.
I found the narrator did not voice the emotion so it put me off the book at times.

One of the best from Kate L. Mary

This is my third book from Kate L. Mary and honestly the best one so far.

Kate is really great at making realistic characters and Kara is really believable! She isn't perfect(who is really) and makes a lot of mistakes during this book.

When Kara gets into a car accident she gets hits by more than just a tree, she also gets hit by the fact that the man she always thought was her biological father is not. Angry with her mother for hiding the truth all these years, she storms out her house and walks into a bar where she meets Derek. Meets is not the correct term as they both went to the same High School but Kara barely remembers him. A romance blossom. I won't spoil it here because it's better to experience it.

After her perfect family crumbles and her mother refused to say who her biological dad is, Kara and Derek, go on a journey to find out who her biological dad is. There are lots of twists and turn and Kara and Derek's relationship develop as she learns the truth that she might have been better not knowing.

Intense!

This book hits the ground running and doesn’t let up. It grabbed my attention from the first sentence and had me ganging on every word until the end. I couldn’t put it down and, I hope there’s a follow up book for these characters. The narration was very well done. I received a review copy at my request and voluntarily reviewed.

Great Read

Collision was a good read by Kate L. Mary. Kara Jones is eighteen years old and on her way home from college. She gets into a car accident and at the hospital finds out that her family isn't all it seems. Her mother is acting strange and pulls Kara out of school. Derek Miller is an old classmate who is dealing with his own family problems. Kara can't resist his charm and he agrees to help her dig into her mother's past. They are looking into her mom's former boyfriend's, looking to find her birth father. Unfortunately they find a dark history at Kent State University. They grow closer to each other as they get closer to the answers. I really enjoyed reading Kara and Derek's story and can't wait to read more by the author.

Be careful what you wish for!

How would you feel, what would you do? With an innocent slip of the tongue, you discover that your life up to this point has been a lie. Your mother and father are both blood type O-Negative and you are AB. What!? We follow our young MC Kara Jones as she realizes, then rationalizes this stunning revelation. The poor girl had more related difficulties to deal with than the initial shock, especially when she received the answer to her persistent questions. Kara had a new beau to occupy her time as well but he helped calm the chaos. Be careful what you wish for! Interesting elements

Enjoyed the audio for this story. Listened with Audible. The narrator did a good job. She fit the story and characters well.

Like the premise of Kara finding out her dad isn’t actually her biological father; it takes an interesting turn. Kara isn’t the type of character I care for though; I just don’t like her personality. Too immature, too self absorbed, can’t handle things well, overly dramatic, gets drunk often despite being underage, and clingy. She has this airhead cheerleader type that peaked in high school personality; not for me. The love interest, Derek, is okay, but I didn’t like the scene where it seemed like he was trying to make his ex jealous by feeling Kara up in front of all his friends; that’s just gross. Actually, all the scenes with Derek’s friends were stupid; there was some weird scene where it felt like Derek’s friend, Dax, was looking to get a threesome going with Kara and Derek. I didn’t like either of their friends; Kara’s kept going on about hopefully Derek and Kara would break up, so she could have him; eww. There is a good connection between Derek and Kara; love how supportive he is of her during her search for answers about her bio father. There’s some sweet moments there, so I did like the growth of their relationship. The ending isn’t really satisfying; there is an ending that answers the main things for this book, but there’s some things that seem open ended. This was written in 2014, so I’m thinking there isn’t going to be a sequel either; I may have missed it but I did a glance through some of the premises for Mary’s other books. Now that I think about it, a lot of Mary’s endings in her books aren’t the best. I’ve read many of her zombie books and enjoyed them, but some have some unsatisfactory endings. With all that being said, the story does entertain me, so I still went with a 3 star.

Collision

Collision is a well-written romantic suspense. The storyline is suspenseful, with quite a bit of mystery. The characters are pleasant and moderately engaging. Overall it's a good story, by not my favorite by Kate L. Mary. Janine Granda does a great job with the narration and the characters' voices.
