Bad Readers, Interesting stories

The stories are good, but the narrators are horrible. At least one of the narrators doesn't even speak English as his native language and it shows. He speaks well, but his accent and struggle to pronounce some of the words makes it difficult to listen to the stories he reads. Some of the other narrators are so slow and pedantic, you almost fall asleep before getting into the stories. I'm glad I didn't pay much for this audiobook.

Terribly Distracting Narration

I have been an avid Lovecraft fan for decades and will usually listen to or read anything "Lovecraftian" (Derleth, Arkham House, etc.) but this version was just too much. As other reviews have stated, the accents of the narrators just overpowered everything else and pulled you out of the story just to figure out what they were saying. I powered through 5 stories, too, to be sure it wasn't just the first narrator. I know the book has different narrators for different stories, but this felt like one of those free public domain audio books where every chapter has a different person, recorded in a different environment, and none of them were professional.

Unfortunately, as much as I love the genre, I have to give this one a pass.

the reader had an accent the muttered up the words

the Irish speaker made it hard to listen to due to mispronouncing and just a hard accent to understand on the fly

Can’t understand it at all

Maybe I would give it a couple more stars if I could even hear the story??
