Publisher's summary

I’m desperate and destitute when Lockwood Construction rolls into my small town with an offer too good to pass up: high wages to any able-bodied man willing to join their crew.

Say no more. I throw on baggy clothes, tuck my long hair under a baseball hat, and apply for a job. Unfortunately, my half-baked idea of disguising myself as a guy is flawed from the beginning. As Shakira says, these hips don’t lie.

Still, I like to think I might have pulled the whole thing off save for one thing:

I know my boss.

Last month, we met at a bar, and after a fiery first encounter, it seems we’re destined to be sworn enemies.

Ethan Stone is ruthless and arrogant, a man I never would have crossed had I known how much he likes to toy with his prey.

He should just fire me and be done with it. Instead, he decides to make me his personal slave. Oh right, I think they’re calling it personal “assistant” these days.

It’s torture, all of it - his bad attitude, his ruggedly chiseled face, his desire to grind me into dust.

Every one of our friction-filled battles burns hotter than the last.

A girl can only hold out for so long. Soon, I’m bound to go up in flames.

My objective? Survive the heat long enough to send home a paycheck.
My real objective? Stop having X-rated fantasies about my coldhearted boss.

A very cute, sassy, funny, sweet tale.

This was my first RS Grey book, it doesn’t have much sex in it which is almost a must for me, however, I was very entertained. I laughed, felt angst for Taylor, & loved their bantering back & forth as they fell in love. It won’t be my last Grey book I’m sure.

Sweet Slow Burn/ Enemies to Lovers!!

This story is fun and adorable! A girl down on luck and life doing everything to keep moving forward. Sweet slow burn to bring these two back together.

I’m new to both narrators but they did a fantastic job!

Best One Yet

Have not read an RS Grey book that I did not love but this one has been my favorite. The narration was great, though about halfway through I could swear Edward Barnes started narrating with gum in his mouth. His voice is so swoony, I overlooked it. The chemistry of these characters was hot and I can't think of a single thing I didn't love about the whole story, except that it ended.

Epic Slow Burn Enemies-to-lovers Romance

With her signature style, Ms. Grey does a fine job letting a relationship simmer until the point of madness. When things finally combust, the reader is rewarded with all the feels.

The tension was palpable... their relationship was inevitable... the sparks were ridiculous! I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the narration was spot on!

Slow Burn Enemies to Lovers Romance

Overall 4 stars
Performance 4.5 stars
Story 4 stars

Coldhearted Boss was a fun enemies to lovers, forced proximity romance. This one reminded me a lot of RS Grey's other novel, Arrogant Devil, which I also really enjoyed. Taylor and Ethan have an instant attraction (which leads to a rather awkward first encounter), but I liked that a good portion of the novel was spent having them reevaluate their first impressions of the other. I wasn't sure what to think of Taylor at first, but I grew to really like and respect her. Ethan was an excellent grump, but exactly the cinnamon roll I love underneath. His gruff exterior hid that vulnerable side well and I loved that once things got going, he was all in for Taylor. I think my favorite aspect of the book was that Taylor never lost herself in Ethan. She had her own dreams and aspirations and I appreciated that she wanted to stand on her own two feet and not be rescued. This one was a big slow burn and I did feel that things switched anti-climactically after all that buildup. The ending and epilogue were just right though and I had a big smile on my face as I finished.

The narration by Lauren Fortgang and Edward Thomas was really wonderful. I especially enjoyed Edward Thomas as Ethan. He's a new to me narrator, but he captured Ethan's stern brunch daddy vibes perfectly. Lauren Fortgang was awesome as Taylor, but I didn't enjoy her performance as Ethan as much because of the high pitch she used. Overall, it was a great listening experience though and an entertaining romance.

Good Listen, but I Was Expecting More

I was conflicted about this Audio book, I really loved some parts, and others were just unrealistic to me. I’m giving it 2.5 out of 5 stars. The story didn't just end with hero and heroine coming together for relationship. It also showed the fights and patience and level hardheadedness that is required in a relationship after the honeymoon phase gets over. I loved the last chapter and epilogue. Al in all, it was a great summer read and Taylor-Ethan are my 6th favorite couple out of all the book couples by Rachel. But with how much I loved a similar book by her, I was expecting more.

Totally redeemed Audible Escape!

I just purchased Audible Escape and downloaded my first story a few days ago. it was SO awful that it was painful to listen to. The only reason I finished it was to say I had. I decided to give one more story a try to see if I would continue with my subscription (as that first story was THAT bad) or if I'd cancel. on a whim, I downloaded this story. o...m...g. so glad I did! I LOVE how it wasn't just sex ...there was sexual TENSION, but with an actual story. The ending.... 😍😍. Because of this book (which I devoured in 1.5 days of listening WHENEVER I could), I am keeping my subscription and looking for more stories by the author! thank you!

Light, fun and totally sassy!

As my first RS Grey audiobook, I seriously fell for her quick-witted writing. Ethan and Taylor had a nice slow simmer to full on boil! I thought the storyline was super fun and was surprised with the light angst. The narrators, Lauren Thomas and Edward Barnes were great narrators. I'm not sure I've listened to either of them but I liked both their voices.
