Publisher's summary

When an international ring of sex traffickers kidnaps an eight-year-old girl in Boston, FBI Agent Lucas Randall heads undercover. But his rescue operation goes disastrously wrong and Lucas barely escapes with his life. Now the ruthless traffickers are hunting him down, along with everyone else who threatens their operation.

Computer expert Ashley Chen joined the FBI to fight against evil in the world - evil she experienced firsthand. She has mad skills, and deadly secrets, and once she starts working with Lucas, she also has big trouble, because after years of pushing people away, she's falling for the guy. The feeling is more than mutual, but as Ashley intensifies her online pursuit of the trafficking ring, her traumatic past collides with her present and suddenly Lucas can't tell which side she's on. And as the case escalates into a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, it turns out Ashley isn't the only one with something to hide.

If neither can trust the other with their secrets, how can they trust each other with their hearts?

Excellent Action and bad guys story!

This was a great story, I really enjoyed every bit of it.

I liked Lucas and Ashley together, they had some good chemistry and there were a couple of hot and steamy sex scenes, not erotica just steamy.

The story line and plot was great. There was murder, human trafficking, serious bad guys and a bit of mystery. Lots of action with the FBI and BAU trying to catch the bad guys.

A couple characters from the previous books like Alex Parker and Mallory.

As for the narration... Well it's Eric Dove! Which means it was excellent! He is one of the best male narrators ever! Love him. He does the women's voices so well, and he has an amazing reading voice!

OK book. Fabulous narration..

I loved the beginning of this book. It was thoroughly exciting from Lucas entering the brothel to the explosion that killed so many. Though I didn’t feel the least bit sorry that the madam was killed, but I was glad he saved the two young girls.

Also, I just finished a book about two pedophiles just before this one then opened this to see it was the same kind of story, only a little worse. This one is about human trafficking involving kids AND about the bad guy, Yu Chang who’s 73, who was so excited because the niece who had faked her own death is still alive and he wants to screw her so badly. YUCK! And the computer nerd who works for the bad guy was repeatedly raping the 13 year old girl who had been held in captivity for 2 years, after her mother gave her to them to pay off a gambling debt. Again, YUCK! This was working on being good story for a while but I was beginning to think it was a little too much for me. I just wanted to get off the kids and screwing the niece and onto something else.

When I finished this book I was so glad it was over, and even though I’ve read 12 or 14 of Ms. Anderson’s books this would not be one of my favorites of hers. It was just too, too much about child rape, child sex slaves, child abuse; you were beat over the head with it constantly.

Plus, at 92% Lucas was sooo in love with Ashley but he was still arguing with himself about whether or not he really trusted her. Really?

And there was soooo much prejudice going on around Ashley it was utterly ridiculous. Jeez, how long have American men been marrying Asian women without any problem whatsoever? You’d have thought Ashley had just came over from China and been flagged as a spy instead of her being an FBI agent for the past several years. The remarks about and to Ashley made the book less enjoyable.

The bad guys, Yu Chang, Andrew, Brandon and Rabbit were some of the most evil men I’ve ever read about so Ms. Anderson did do a good job with the evil-doers. Who all got what they deserved at the end.

There were a couple of explicit sex scenes in this and the F-bomb was used 64 times.

As to the narration: Eric Dove is awesome! With voices and emotions.

can the FBI team stop a human trafficking ring?

Another action packed book in this series. This one starts off with a bang...literally! Now Agents Lucas Randall and Ashley Chen must identify the operators of an Asian human trafficking ring. Bodies pile up, and past secrets are revealed that can be deadly. Will the good guys win this round?
This series is riveting and the narration lends to the suspense. Totally recommend.

Thrills, chills and excitment

WOW it gets you right in the gut and makes you want to grab you children hug them tight and keep them close to you. No one trust the other, there seem to be a link no one knows where, could it be in their department. So many secrets, so many lies which will lead to many broken hearts. The book starts out with a knock at the door, a secret password and then all hell breaks loose leaving people dead and some wounded. This is just the beginning to a fast pace action adventure as the hunt is on to find the traffickers it goes from the hunted to being the hunter and back again leaving so many unanswered questions as the bad guys seem to be one step ahead of FBI.

I just love Mr. Dove’s narration he pulls you in with a very strong and powerful voice. There are no background noises or repeating of words just a wonderful delightful listen. If any breaks were taken I could not tell he just delivers a very clean, clear and power audio. His tones are outstanding you can feel the passion, excitement coming right out of your speakers. His male voices are a wonderful as his female. You always know who is talking and what they are feeling. His normal voice is just a delight to listen to as he gives you the facts pulling you in to a world that has gone crazy. You can tell he has put a lot of thought into each character the voices fit them so well. He gives just enough pause, to let what he just read sink in giving it a powerful impact on the listener. Mr. Dove knows how to pull you in taking your on a ride that will leave you holding your breath wanting to pull the characters out of the story to keep them safe. His Performance is one of the best narrators I have listened to. I know when I see his name it is going to be a wild exciting ride.

This leads off with mystery, suspense and action with wonderful characters that keeps you entertained with a page turner you can’t put down. When it comes to children there is nothing more dearly to your heart than a child that has been kidnapped and put in a sex ring. The clock is ticking as Lucas is on a race with the clock to find the little girl who has been taken before harm can be done to her. Just when we think it is all going to work out all hell breaks loose with bodies flying and buildings falling. This is a very emotional touching read from the characters to the issues. It is a race to bring the traffickers in and keeping the child alive to be able to get her alive until she can get to the court to put them away.

I really liked the chemistry between Lucas and Ashley the bickering just add to the romance and story. The twists and turns are exciting along with the suspense and action. It seems everyone is hiding something from the ones on the right side of the laws to the ones that are on the other side. Ashley seemed so open and up front until she starts acting weird than you know it must be something big. When you find the answer your heart just breaks for her. I really liked the characters and loved the plot it kept me guessing, hanging on the edge, a few heart stopping moments with lots of excitement and suspense. The ending is wonderful. Ms. Anderson is one of my favorite authors from the first book I picked up that scared the crap right out of me. She has had me in the palm of her hands every since.

Don't pass this one by......

Another addition to the FBI series from an author who knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat! You won't want to put this down until the very end.
This book is the story of Lucas Randall, Ashley Chen and the trafficking of sex slaves. Some of the details are disturbing but need to be. This is a fight every step of the way to find the clues that will lead them to the criminals they both want to put behind bars. Their attraction is immediate and they try to ignore it but it is a losing battle. It's not all roses and some lines will be crossed that could well destroy the fledgling relationship. Lucas & Ashley will have to use every tool at their disposal to fight these near ghosts and to find their own hea. Eric G Dove is amazing as the narrator for this series. I'm looking forward to the next in this series.

Pretty good plot, pretty confusing cover

Great storyline and there were plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing, but who's the cover of? The two protagonists were described as having dark hair and the little girl had blond.

Outstanding!!!

I can't say enough about this series. They are well written, engaging, and down right entertaining! These agents worked to bring down sex traffickers ran by a Chinese crime family and did it well. There is growing love between two agents, and growing respect between two others. You hear updates on other agents you have come to know from previous books, and some make personal appearances. Eric G. Dove is wonderful as always and delivered as always. Well worth the credit if you enjoy this type of story.

Twists, Suspense and Love!

Lucas is an undercover FBI agent who has infiltrated a brothel trying to find a young girl who had been kidnapped by a sex trafficking ring. The assignment explodes, literally, which allows some of the criminals to escape and more questions than answers.

Ashley’s computer skills has been loaned to Lucas’s unit which makes her a target as well. She has a dark past and as a result doesn’t let people too close as the danger it would bring to them as well but Lucas has managed to infiltrate her walls.

When her secret is exposed her loyalty is questioned and the only way to save those around her is to place herself directly in the line of fire but will they escape with their lives? Their story is filled with suspense, twists and action that keep you guessing until the end.

The narrator did a wonderful job with bringing the characters to life. I voluntarily reviewed an audio copy of this book.

Good story number 8 in series

Although this is number 8 in the series it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone book. Backstories are briefly mentioned, enough to fit characters in but not over explaining.
Basically, this series is a fusion of romance and serious crime.
I liked the twists and turns in this book as it developed the relationship of the main two protagonists. The author raises the issue of child prostitution/sexual slavery and casual racism and doesn’t dismiss the issues.
My problem with the narrator is just his pronunciation of the word ‘brothel’. Unless American pronunciation is very different from the uk’s, there is a ‘th’ sound in the word! It is jarring when the word comes up in the text. This is a shame as otherwise an excellent narrator!

Trust me

I have really enjoyed listening to the Cold series books as read by Eric G Dove and this is no exception. His voice is lovely to listen to and his subtle differences in characters is more than enough to keep each character separate. I have had a few times in past books where his pronunciation of a word has been noticeably American, but nothing compared to the pronunciation of brothel in this book. I’ve never heard it said this way, so strange was it I had to check with the written version of the book to make sure of the word.
This distraction didn’t take away from an otherwise great action packed thriller. Strong characters and strong plot lines make for a ‘can’t put it down’ novel ( or in this case - can’t stop listening).
The FBI team is trying to solve a problem on home soil which becomes international. One of their own agents then becomes the target of this group because of her secret former life. Trust is the main theme running through this story. Breaking, making and rebuilding trust.
