Half Western, half space opera, entirely AWESOME.

To make a comparison, stylistically Cold Cosmos is to science fiction what the Dresden Files are to fantasy. That is to say that Cold Cosmos uses the tropes of the genre to tell its own fun, action filled, tale and never takes its foot off the gas, or boot out of the stirrup.

Fun loving, passionate narration takes an already action packed story and turns it into something exceptional, you'll become invested in Idiom Lee and his adventure in short order due to David Swanson's impassioned narration.

YEEE HAW!!!!

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Okay, let me start off by saying I LOVE SCIENCE FICTION WESTERNS!!! I grew up on shows like Bravestarr, so any story that puts cowboys into space is right up my alley.

The story starts off normal enough, with our hero Idiom Lee fighting bear-like creatures and cheating at cards, but soon the story blasts off, and Idiom finds himself in WAY over his head in an adventure reminiscent of Guardians of the Galaxy and Firefly.

I'm hooked, and I cannot wait for the next installment in this series. I just hope the entire main cast returns for the sequel!

David Swanson's performance (and it IS a performance, not a simple narration) is stellar! The only place it's lacking is in his female voices, but I'm willing to let that slide considering the amount of accents and vocal effects he juggles in this production.

If you're hankerin' for a good ol' rootin'-tootin', six-gun-shootin' space opera, this one's for you.

a Cowboy with Aliens

Taken from Earth to the stars, this cowboy finds out that the universe isn't all that different, with hustles and rustlers and bad men that need to be stopped. just dont drink the milk. I liked the characters and the story was a RIP-roaring yarn. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Strap in for a wild ride!

Engaging story and great voice work! I loved the different styles for all the characters as it really brought them to life- especially Sarge and Jekto! Although this is a relatively short book, there was no shortage of character development and exciting situations. I couldn’t wait to get back in my car to listen again, and was sad when it was finished. Looking forward to the next adventure of Idiom and the crew!

A space opera in the making!

A lawyer/gambler in space meeting new friends. Making a great team of kooky characters.
This narrator has an awesome range of voices making the characters come to life.

It's never simple with you, is it?

1895, and Idiom, riding his horse Leroy towards the Rusty Anvil in search of a poker game, is attacked by something like a gigantic bear. Leroy doesn't make it. It's the start of the reluctant attorney's adventure somewhere in space with the same shapeshifter 'bear' named Gin and several other very disparate alien creatures who look on Idiom as an uneducated idiot, and barely tolerate his company in their endeavors. The aliens are viscious, original, good natured monsters who dislike everyone - and are a great team. Lots of action, fun, excitement and even laughter as some of earth's absurdities are examined and found -peculiar: like one creature riding on the back of another, once it has been 'broken' and given shoes.

Told in the first person by an overly optimistic Idiom, his part is beautifully portrayed by narrator David Swanson, who is a wizard at accents and character voicings, incorporating an echo sound into that of one of the odd aliens. His pacing is good, his good rumoured reading infectious and all is good with good intonation and adherence to the sentiments of the text. An excellent performance.

My thanks to the rights ho!see of Cold Cosmos, who, at my request, free!y gifted me with a complimentary copy via Audiobook Boom. So many so called comic space S.F.Books fail to live up to the hype they are given. This one, however, does. Great fun and I'm looking forward to book two..
