Nola Lewis needs to find a job, lose her boyfriend and train her cat, and not necessarily in that order.

Nola

My life is a complete mess. I have a sister who’s threatening to sue me, my boyfriend’s a douche who I should have dumped years ago. My neighbor’s goat is a freak and my cat is really Satan in a fur coat.

On top of all that I also desperately need a job.

When my best friend’s husband offers me a position in his company, I snap it up. What I don’t expect is to be working with the rude - and unfortunately completely gorgeous - man who sat laughing at me through a coffee shop window.

While I tried to pull my heel from a grate in the sidewalk, as it poured with rain.

I flipped him the bird while I stood glaring, but that didn’t keep him away.

Kato Black is not what I need right now, but I’m not sure my body agrees with me.

Dirty whore.

Who knew flipping someone off could lead to so much more.
Standalone with no cliffhangers.
This is a fun romance with lots of banter and craziness. Plus a stalker ex, a greedy sister, and a psycho cat. So much fun to listen to.

The book that I didn’t realize I needed! It was so refreshing to read about a funny & witty heroine. Nola absolutely cracked me up at every turn. She was sarcastic and not afraid to speak her mind. Loved how her & Kato’s love story turned out. It was really fun to spend time with Chase & Aubrey from Cocky Bastard again too. Do yourself a favor & read this book! You won’t regret it. Awesome Narration by Lance Greenfield & Jill Redfield!

Loved It!

“Wow, maybe I do have a fair job-mother”
I’m not sure, but it feels like this Cocky Heroes Club of short romance books comes from a New Writers support group, where they challenged each other to write a romance around cocky male leads. Also, quite a few of the books connect back to the book Cocky Bastard and feature A) cocky male leads,
B) kooky pets and C) cameos with the couples from each author’s books, particularly Aubrey, Chase, and their crazy pet goat (from the aforementioned Cocky Bastard book). Sometimes this worked for me (Cocky Suit), but more often stories crashed and burned (Arrogant Assassin).

Kato: “You’re lucky you’re pretty.”
Nola: “You’re lucky YOU’RE pretty.”
Kato: “Manly, you mean.”
Nola: “Cocky.”
Kato: “Delightful.”
There is a fine line between cocky and jerk, but this book did great at making Kato growly and possessive without him being toxic or unbearable. Loved the banter and loved even more that things never get beyond TV levels of angst, danger or violence.

“Shh, don’t poke the beast.”
Is there room for improvement? Sure. Narrator Greenfield gets maybe 20% voice time, which is criminal. Further, while he goes full Aussie with Chase’s lines, Ms. Redfield gives zero accents. Maybe she never read Aubrey and Chase’s story? Even with them being supporting characters, the very different narration took me out of the story.

I feel like a little more time could have been spent developing Nola and Kato, whose relationship was built entirely around lust.

And the stalker plot was so 80s TV cheesy. But, hey, at this length, I’m not looking for Great Expectations.
I want fun, sexy and light. For that, this was a winning combination and I would happily get a second book from this author.

Sexy, funny and light - formula romance done right
