Publisher's summary

When Ellison Russell is nearly killed at a benefactors' party, she brushes the incident aside as an unhappy accident. But when her house is fire-bombed, she's shot at, and the person sitting next to her at a gala is poisoned, she must face facts. Someone wants her dead. But why? And can Ellison find the killer before he strikes again?

Add in an estranged sister, a visiting aunt with a shocking secret, and a handsome detective staying in her guesthouse, and Ellison might need more than cream in her coffee.

Really???

Why oh why do we fall back on the same tropes over and over??? "Somebody is trying to kill me? I think I'll go here or there by myself and be annoyed at people who are trying to help me or to keep me from going places by myself!" Oy.

Ellison, what have you done?

Another great one from Julie Mulhern, skillfully narrated by Callie Beaulieu. Mrs. Wolford's museum gala is here and members of the family start to arrive … several unexpectedly. Before long Ellison has a houseful of guests in her home and they all bring baggage that is a bit heavy to handle. Mrs. Wolford's sister, "Aunt Cis", has arrived from Europe and Ellison's sister, Marjorie, arrives from Ohio with an array of revealing dresses that cause many men's eyes to focus on her while her eyes are wandering. Now it seems that someone is trying to kill our Ellison. But, why? Hunter Taft and Detective Anarchy Jones are ready on the spot to protect her yet things keep happening. This one is loaded with twists and turns and of course what would a Country Club Murder book be without a body. I am hooked !!! I have been telling my friends how much I love these books. Now several of them have joined me too … even including a husband of one of my friends !!! I recommend that you start with book #1 of the series, "The Deep End", so you don't miss out on how beautifully the characters are introduced and develop. But, even if you jump in right here I know you'll be hooked by these books too. They are bright, funny, intelligent and so hard to put down, everything that a "cozy mystery", or really any mystery should be.

A VERY SOLID 4 STARS!

Very enjoyable cozy mystery. This is the first one in the series I’ve listened to. Many of them are free with Audible Plus, so I would say most definitely check them out!

I really liked the narrator as well. She has a very calming voice that is most pleasant to listen to and, in my opinion, personifies the main protagonist, Ellison, perfectly…☺️

Entertaining story

I’ve listened to or read almost all of this series as I like the main character and her romantic interest. Fun mystery plots. But I’ve reviewed before and I say it again, the mother in this series borders on mentally I’ll. She’s a horrible, shallow human being and honestly the dysfunction she brings is painful. Not a good mom by any stretch. I’m shocked at other reviewers take on her. I find nothing humorous about her belittling, and verbal abuse. Otherwise, the stories are great.

Another winner

Another great performance of another fun and twisted story. Can’t get enough of this family and their friends.

Ellison and Anarchy

The Country Club Murder series is a wonderful walk thru the 70s, a reminder of a good time in my life. Ellison Russell is one of my favorite heroines. Her struggles with her mother mirror my own and like her, my Daddy DID hang the moon. Anarchy Jones is my kind of detective.
