Publisher's Summary

What if you couldn't remember the last year of your life? And the people closest to you were lying about what really happened?

Gripping, shocking psychological suspense that fans of Liane Moriarty's The Husband's Secret, Clare Mackintosh's I Let You Go and Linda Green's While My Eyes Were Closed will love.

She can't remember the last year. Her husband wants to keep it that way.

When Jo Harding falls down the stairs at home, she wakes up in hospital with partial amnesia - she's lost a whole year of memories. A lot can happen in a year. Was Jo having an affair? Lying to her family? Starting a new life?

She can't remember what she did - or what happened the night she fell.

But she's beginning to realise she might not be as good a wife and mother as she thought.

A gripping debut novel

I really enjoyed the slowly evolving story as we moved between now and 12months ago.

Ok

Poor editing. Several times there was a sentence being repeated and corrected throughout. Very Distracting!

Yawn!

What disappointed you about Close to Me?

Struggled to get through the book and took days to finish. Thin storyline with no direction.

Very good

I did enjoy. I usually listen to my Audible, in bed just to get me ready for sleep, unfortunately, one night I laid in bed till 3.30 instead.

Great story, mediocre recording quality

A good book spoilt by poor sound quality. At times l could barely here it plus shabby chapter editing. A shame because it was well narrated and a gripping plot albeit a bit unfeasible.

Interesting twists - enjoyable listen

Always choose to listen to any books narrated by Rachel Atkins. Such a variety of voices. Although I found the voice of the daughter irritating she was so wingey and spoilt like a 16 year old rather than the 22 she was supposed to be.
This book was interesting and just when you think she’s solved the next step in her story, it changes again
Although there was all sorts of issues in the end.

repetitive and annoying.

I think it was incorrectly filed as psychological thriller. it was a bit like listening to a very drawn out episode of Eastenders. the author seemed preoccupied with wide smiles and generous mouths as these descriptions occur over and over and over again. the only twist was that there wasn't one.

Rather banal.

The overall storyline wasn’t great, the most enjoyable aspect was perhaps attempting to put the pieces together with the main character but other than that, I found it hard to stay hooked.

What’s more, the ending was just terrible. The main character feigns happiness but had you actually followed the story, you would realize that she sounds worse toward the end than she does at end.

I found the daughters voice to be utterly insufferable, whiny and for no apparent reason.

However, it is worth consideration that I didn’t listen to the whole thing in one or two sittings, it was stretched out for a number of weeks, this could explain my lack of absorption and enjoyment, that said, if the story isn’t that great to begin with, you probably wouldn’t want to finish it in two sittings.

Chicken and egg argument, did the storyline cause me to pay less attention, thus ruining the entire audiobook for me or did my lack of attention cause me to disregard or miss certain aspects of the story, leading to this unfavourable review. Judge for yourselves, after listening.

Not for me, I gave it 5 chapters before giving up, it just seemed to go on an on, but not get anywhere, but to dull for me
