Publisher's Summary

Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos. Magic is dangerous – but love is more dangerous still.

When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London’s Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.

Kidnapped by the mysterious Dark Sisters, members of a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club, Tessa soon learns that she herself is a Downworlder with a rare ability: the power to transform, at will, into another person. What’s more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa’s power for his own. Clockwork Angel, Book 1 in The Infernal Devices series. A prequel to the best-selling Mortal Instruments series.

Not very impressed with the story line

Story could have been better. Not really interesting and some parts dragged. However, I really admired how Will n Jem liked each other but they were completely different. Also, though Tessa was considered prescious, I never really understood why ?

Lovely performance. Great plot.

I loved the story. Perhaps some characters overdid it but good nonetheless. Plot was interesting too.

Great book (for "young" readers). Awful narration!

Two stars because of narrator. Great story. Very gripping. It's a"young " read .... I loved it (I'm only 54). Fast moving story. Despite vampires, werewolves and warlocks it wasn't hackneyed. What saves it is the strength of the characters and how much the reader is engaged in their hopes and fears, and their adventures are gripping and full of danger. my only criticism is that I got bored with the continual deliberate sexual tension between the characters which came across as contrived and unlikely.
The narration of both this book and the second in the series, however, is shocking. The female narrators are both shrill with dreadful accents. Awful. Thankfully if you can endure the first two, the third in the series is wonderfully read.

This is a fantastic series<br />

This book is fantastic and I am enjoying it even more than the mortal instruments. If you love books you can really identify with Tessa as a person and I find the narrative very amusing.

Awful Narration

A good story, especially if you like the shadowhunter books; but the narrator was irritating especially with her English accents, her Yorkshire one is terrible. Totally ruined it for me.

I don't like

I didn't like the way somethings where changed or left out of the Audible, for instance Wills parents! in the book, Chapter 20, Jem tells Tessa the his parents like hers and jessie's are dead, (Wills Might As Well Be) a reference to his parents not being Dead. but in the Audible Jem says that his Jessie and Wills parents are all dead, this is just not simply ture.

A little difficult to get into

I personally did not find it easy to get into this book. Story seemed good but the narration made it difficult to become part of the story

The shrieking

All in all not too badly read. She has a habit of reading Will Herondale very strangely like someone doing a mock version of a British man's voice but all that is fine until she reads what is meant to be someone screaming and shouting. I'm not sure what to call it as it sounds like neither. Mostly funny but also very off-putting.

This was a good book

I love she shadow hunters tv show and I wanted to get into the books. This is a great storyline that will add some context before I listen to the mortal instruments. it is based in england which i relate to since in from Manchester in the north of england. Although it is based in the south of England I feel that I relate to these charcters on. I can't wait to see how the storyline progress and the characters progress

Good book but

One of my favourite books from my favourite author, it’s a shame that some of the words were pronounced wrong, and don’t even get me started in Gabriel’s voice, where did the lisp come from?

Couldn't stop listening!

Absolutely brilliant! Clare's talent takes you into a whole other world, only to be encouraged by the great voice talent. I've read this book before, but listening to it added a whole new depth to characters I hadn't explored before.
