Publisher's Summary

Robert Louis Stevenson's cherished, unforgettable adventure magically captures the thrill of a sea voyage and a treasure hunt through the eyes of its teenage protagonist, Jim Hawkins. Crossing the Atlantic in search of the buried cache, Jim and the ship's crew must brave the elements and a mutinous charge led by the quintessentially ruthless pirate Long John Silver.

Brilliantly conceived and splendidly executed, this is a novel that has seized the imagination of generations of adults and children alike. And as David Cordingly points out in his afterward, Treasure Island is also the best and most influential of all pirate stories.

    "Narration unsteady in volume"
Would you be willing to try another one of Alfred Molina’s performances?

No. Alfred Molina, while he has a lovely voice, tends to drop the volume of his voice at the end of each sentence - making it difficult, if not impossible, to hear. I found myself continuously turning the volume up, then back down again - until I just gave up and stopped listening.

    Any additional comments?

Try this book by another narrator.

    "very bad audio"

About 9 min into the recording, it sounds like his mike is not plugged in fully, there is terrible noise and distortion, extremely distracting. I kept listening, but it continues intermittently. This is supposed to be professional recording?!? Totally unacceptable.

"I could listen to Alfred Molina read the phone book!"

This is a great story made even better by the amazing vocal talent of Alfred Molina. His voice characterizations were amazing!

    "Wonderfully exciting!"

I read (listened) to Treasure Island while on vacation in the FLA Keys...the perfect setting if I couldn't be on an uninhabited tropical island! Molina's voice helped me visualize the characters, the setting, and the swashbuckling! I had just finished watching the series finale of one of my favorite shows, Black Sails, which is the imagined prologue to Stevenson's Treasure Island. So wonderful to go back to one of my childhood favorite books (Billy Bones, Flint, John Silver!) with an imaginative background now under my belt. I highly suggest both this Audible selection and the Starz series as a combined treat!

    "Hard to hear"

The story is a classic, so my complaint lies with the narrator. His speech usually starts off loud but the last 2-3 words of each sentence are very soft, almost inaudible. This made for a very frustrating listen in the car.

narrator was great, but unless your fluent in pirate it can be hard to keep up with. Still a decent read though.

    "wonderful classic"

My family enjoyed listening to this together, with boys and girls aged 10-16. It's a fabulous story with a very good narrator. The accent is perfect.

    "Takes you back in time..."

This book is a classic that is always good to read but the narrators voice and accents only make the story come more alive! Would definitely recommend this audibook.
