Publisher's Summary

A masterpiece of satire, this classic has entertained and enlightened readers the world over with its sly and ironic portrayal of human life from the vantage point of Screwtape, a highly placed assistant to "Our Father Below". At once wildly comic, deadly serious, and strikingly original, C. S. Lewis gives us the correspondence of the worldly-wise old devil to his nephew Wormwood, a novice demon in charge of securing the damnation of an ordinary young man. The Screwtape Letters is the most engaging and humorous account of temptation - and triumph over it - ever written.

    "Entertaining and well read"

I enjoyed this reading even as a not terribly spiritual individual. It was wildly entertaining and forced the reader or listener to consider their own moral failings or at least ambiguities. It encourages the audience to consider what we mean by virtue and what we perhaps judge too quickly. I do think the earlier letters pack a bit more punch, but he discusses that in the preface to the conclusion toast by screwtape. Sometimes I found some of the implications short sighted and I found it interesting how some complaints about "this generation" parallels current criticism but...story for another day I suppose.

"I love Joss Auckland's voice! Such a great story!"

I love this book and Joss Auckland's voice is perfect! I encourage others to read this book. it's a good book to see the struggle between the spiritual and the natural. In the book you see the relationship between good and evil.

"I wish CS Lewis was convincing."

Although it was a very interesting way to propose Christian values, his own biases nevertheless slip in to the story. He purposes a particular brand of Christianity but sells it as a catch all. I also noticed that he leaves various social trends to have been shaped by demons and not by human behaviors. I always enjoy CS Lewis, and I highly recommend this book to those interested. With that said, his works are wonderful almost mainly because they are pure fiction and obviously so.

"Wonderful! A unique way of teaching lessons. "

this has always been one of my favorite books. As my title here says it is a unique way of teaching and entertainment. The author mixes comedy, drama and spirituality into a wonderful lesson set. The information is there boldly for the reader to understand, if they have ears to hear it. I would recommend this book to anybody, and I have.

"I'll be reading this MANY more times"

The reader has a fantastic voice for this Lewis classic, but I do think this book would be better read than listened to. Lewis is just too rich and thought-provoking. I needed more time to process his writing. That being said, I'm sure I will listen over and over at different points in my life because there will always be something to take away.

    "devilishly wonderful"

the narrator did a very good job at portraying his character, and the fact that there was no true chronology made the story a puzzle to figure out

    "Strong Writing"

Almost didn't finish it. For me it was very unsettling. Probably because it brings up too many truths. And maybe that's the way it should be.

It is amazing how relevant this is for today and that C.S. Lewis wrote this in the 1940s
