Publisher's Summary

A tale of betrayal, revenge, loyalty and redemption, The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne is a true classic.

Hester Prynne settles in a little town in Puritan-era Massachusetts while awaiting her husband's arrival from England. Hester becomes pregnant, exposing her sin in the eyes of the townsfolk. Her penalty: wearing an embroidered A on her bosom for the remainder of her life.

When Hester's husband arrives in the town anticipating a joyous reunion with his young wife, he instead begins a cankering quest to uncover the father of Hester's child.

"The scarlet letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne"

This is a classic that I have read several times. The narration by Nancy Peterson was absolutely fabulous she did a nice job differentiating between the characters and the narrative. I highly recommend this version. I was voluntarily provided a review copy from the author publisher or narrator

    "The narrator is stellar!"

This was a "re-read" for me. I have found that I am much more motivated to revisit classics if I listen to an audiobook. I think I loved the story even more this time. It has a Feminist slant to it that, after reading many of the Goodreads reviews, I don't think a majority of people pick up on.

The narrator is stellar. Her pacing is spot on, and her character voices are distinct, but natural sounding. Her words are easily understood, and there were no annoying sounds (lip smacks, or loud breath intakes) present. I will be looking for other books she has narrated.

Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter is about forbidden love, crime, revenge, and is set in the

    Puritan community.

Overall, The Scarlet Letter is well-written, thought-provoking, and definitely a book that should be read.

Nancy Peterson did really well with the narration.

    "Loved it!"

I read The Scarlet Letter in high school. Dry.As.Dust.
Nancy Peterson breathed life and meaning into this old classic. I loved it from the second I heard her delightful rendition of the judgemental women in chapter one!

    "A Classic Beautifully Told"
What did you like best about this story?

The narration. I wish I had this narration available in high school when I had to read the Scarlet Letter. This narration brought a fresh look to a classic.

Have you listened to any of Nancy Peterson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but I will gladly listen to more. This narration must have been tiring. I can imagine my whole face hurting after reading this aloud for only an hour! Bravo Ms. Peterson. Your pacing was perfect and the handling of the older language was beautifully performed.
