Wonderful narration.

Would you listen to The Raven again? Why?

Yes I certainly would. ‘The Raven’ is a truly haunting supernatural poem written by Edgar Allen Poe, and with the incredibly deep and poignant voice of Phillip J. Mather it becomes more of a performance than narration.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Raven?

Definitely when he hears the raven tapping. It is the story of a love lost, and of a man who sits pondering one winters evening, haunted by the death of his beloved Lenore. Then he hears a tapping and thinks there is someone at his door, however, no one is there and he then discovers a raven at his window. Upon letting it in, he concludes that it must have been an escaped pet bird as it appears to respond to him, but it only knows one word “nevermore.” However, he is a haunted man with a tortured soul who needs to talk, but will he find peace?

Which character – as performed by Phillip J Mather – was your favorite?

Phillip J. Mather brought this great classic poem, deep and full of hidden meaning wonderfully to life.

Any additional comments?

I thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful narration of this classic creepy supernatural poem.

Mather's voice

What made the experience of listening to The Raven the most enjoyable?

I have to say that Mather's voice is like butter. Smooth and rich to listen while relaxing. I could listen to him all day. Glad to know he has recorded several other works.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

What can one say? It is Poe!

What does Phillip J Mather bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He brings it to life. Audio books have a way of helping the brain paint a picture, at least for me. I have purchased a few that were a bother to get through because the person's voice just didn't click with the story. I suspect Mr. Mather could read a telephone book and make it sound interesting. Pleased as punch to have discovered him.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes it was.

Any additional comments?

I have looked at the other texts that this reader has done and will purchase a couple I would not have before because of who is reading it. Thanks!
