Publisher's summary

The bloody-minded Montresor leads the pompous Fortunato deep into the catacombs, seeking the famed Amontillado wine. Here we have one of Poe’s most terrifying, and most “beloved” tales. Revenge and pomposity commingle beneath the river’s bed, leading to a delightfully sinister conclusion.

he lost his playmate Fortunato

He had planned for many years adding many details to his plan of exquisite revenge toward Firtunato for the many small slights. He had swallowed them all. But this last much larger slight he could not swallow. He must enact-the play he had been constructing in his mind minutely . It had consumed his thoughts entirely. Now he would execute it. Now Fortunato was chained and bricked in-he was silenced . What to think about now, whet to plan, what to do. He had killed Fortunato. He had killed the playmate of his mind. He was alone and the joke was on him.

A classic for a good reason

I love this Edgar Allan Poe story and B.J. Harrison's narration is wonderful. I love the way he does both characters' voices and the emphasis he puts on certain words. This story is a true classic, appropriately creepy and the narration had me even more engaged with the story.

Good listen!

The reader did a great job of bringing the characters to life. The story was all I was told it would be. Though a very short tale it was enjoyable.

Giggity!

I started studying this story in Middle/High school. Wrote several papers/analysis on it and have since grown to really enjoy the dark mind that was Poe. Reminds me of my favorite film director Tim Burton. If you enjoy Burton's work, Poe will not disappoint. My only complaint then (and still today) is the verbiage from that particular era of poetry/writing. Unfortunately, that will never change. Perhaps a translation into new era english is in order?
