Publisher's summary

Rip Van Winkle lived in a quiet colonial town, and had a habit of attending to everyone else's chores. Henpecked and poor, he goes squirrel hunting in the woods one day, only to exit twenty years later.

Well Read

Nice to hear the original story. I watched the Wishbone episode on PBS years prior but had never read it's origin. I wish they could somehow bring Wishbone back.

absolutely wonderful, a great short-story especially is you're a bit downtrodden (Washington Irving) is the best at explaining tiny details of his world

A wonderful short story that makes a perfect daytime companion

I listened to Rip Van Winkle while doing the dishes one evening. It’s the perfect length and a fascinating story that takes a deeper look at the worlds that existed in the Appalachian hill country right before and right after the American Revolution.

Timeless Classic!

This Washington Irving American folktale is an early example of using "time travel" as a metaphor to describe our ever changing history! Most readers will be impressed by the fantastic account of a man's encounter with strange little people in the Catskill mountains.More astute readers will recognize that the author's true intent is to illustrate the 13 original colonies prior to and after the American revolution. It has been shown that most people are able to recount history if it's presented as a narrative .Jesus in the New Testament used parables or stories to preach his Gospel because masses were illiterate! I encourage readers of all ages to introduce themselves to Washington Irving's body of work!

Delightful

I have been meaning to revisit this wonderful story from my childhood ever since I visited Sleepy Hollow, and then I discovered to my surprise that I had Dutch ancestors in the Hudson River Valley. Having the tale read to me in such a perfect voice really was enjoyable.
