Never ceasing to be relevant, Hardy's classic endures as Bathsheba Everdene waivers between wielding her feminine wiles to secure love and marriage and maintaining her stoic independence and self-reliance. Neville Jason narrates with an upper-crust accent, then deftly shifts to the characters' distinctive singsong Cornish speech and earthy expressions. He adapts well to the tones of women and the elderly. The audiobook's musical interludes, while striking the moods reflected in scenes, are slightly too strident - but are not a distraction from the novel's fatalistic turmoil and picturesque descriptions.

First Class Narration — Super Irritating Music
I only listened to this book to hear a good read by Mr. Jason, but the music kept intruding itself on the story and at times the music was over the narration itself.
Excellent Hardy novel.

Well worth listening to
This recording is very well narrated and certainly captures the mood and style of Thomas Hardy well. The only negative point is the introductory music is a little over powering to the narration and this repeats incidently throughout the book, however this really doesn't impact upon the overall recording and I throughly recommend this version.
