Publisher's summary

Soon-to-be heiress Betty Stanhope is a runaway bride, but not for the usual reasons - she didn't flee because of a change of heart. Reluctant about the wedding at the outset, the dutiful Betty reaches the altar to find that her groom is a different man altogether and someone she's dreaded most of her life! Before the wedding can proceed, she is taken to a room to recover from her fainting spell. She finds a way to escape and has the good fortune to happen upon a quick-witted factory girl, Jane Carson, who bundles Betty, frothy wedding gown and all, to her room. They hatch a plan to move Betty to Jane's family in the country.

Living with the impoverished Carsons teaches Betty many things: love of family, love of God, and the importance of standing up for herself. When her would-be groom advertises a $5,000 reward for her recovery, the wheels of good and evil are set in motion, and the chase is on!

Charming, suspenseful

Anne Hancock narrated this suspenseful and charming Hill tale beautifully and colorfully. The story line had twists and turns and was told with the elegance and grace of an early 20th century narrative, with a sensitive viewpoint of the spiritual and emotional journeys of the characters.

one of my childhood favorites!

This is a sweet love story. The beautiful heiress is almost taken over by her wicked stepmother and her two creepy sons but she is helped by a poor working girl. She saves her and her whole family gets involved in keeping her hidden from the bad guys. It's funny and cute and fulfilling, with a beautiful happily ever after.
If you like stories from a bygone era, you'll love the stories of GLH, although some are better than the others.

Great Wholesome Story♡

GLH books are always charming with a light towards The Lord. This story is never boring and it's fun to root for Betty to "get away". If you enjoy a good book that brings a smile to your heart, buy this. ♡

Lovely Story

A quick, easy and well narrated and written story. Just too short. I will listen to more by this narrator and authoress.

AMAZING

I just love to good win out over evil, and the bad guys get what's due. God is always the winner.
