Publisher's summary

First published in 1850, David Copperfield was Charles Dickens' eighth novel. Like most of his work, it had been previously published in serial form in 1849. It is said to be the most autobiographical of all his novels, and Dickens late wrote of it, "… like many fond parents, I have in my heart of hearts a favourite child. And his name is David Copperfield."

The story traces the life of David Copperfield from infancy through adulthood and is told entirely from the first-person point of view, that of David. It has been greatly praised by some of the world's greatest authors, including Tolstoy, Lawrence, and Dostoevsky. So powerful is its allure, it has been filmed nine times since 1911.

Love. This. Masterpiece.

I specifically look for Charlton Griffin readings of audio books as I believe him to be one of the premiere voice actors. In the case of DC, I only take issue with the voice of Mr. Micawber, as I found the sections with him in the scene a little tedious. I don't know if it's Mr Dickins' or Mr. Griffin's fault.

That said, this novel may be the best ever written. I am in the car or on an airplane a lot and I have looked forward to these times while I worked through the 30+ hours of this reading. I have found it difficult to make my next selection as I miss David and everyone else in it already.

Absolute classic

Excellent narration. I have listened to this audiobook numerous times. The story only gets better with every reading.
