Publisher's Summary

Our virtues? It is probable that we, too, have still our virtues, although naturally they are not those sincere and massive virtues on account of which we hold our grandfathers in esteem and also at a little distance from us. We Europeans of the day after tomorrow, we firstlings of the 20th century - with all our dangerous curiosity, our multifariousness and art of disguising, our mellow and seemingly sweetened cruelty in sense and spirit - we shall presumably, if we must have virtues, have those only which have come to agreement with our most secret and heartfelt inclinations, with our most ardent requirements: well, then, let us look for them in our labyrinths! - where, as we know, so many things lose themselves, so many things get quite lost! And is there anything finer than to search for one's own virtues? Is it not almost to believe in one's own virtues? But this "believing in one's own virtues" - is it not practically the same as what was formerly called one's "good conscience", that long, respectable pigtail of an idea, which our grandfathers used to hang behind their heads, and often enough also behind their understandings?

    "Alternative ideas"

I started listening to this book expecting to hate it based on reviews I had read on Nietzsche's philosophies but surprisingly loved it. Listening with an open mind allows one to really look at living in the present and letting go of much the preexisting dogma that shapes our current approach to life. A must read for those who wish to look deeper into our existence.

    "What a Wonderful Narration!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, the narrator Kevin does a great job. I've looked him up and he has many other nonfiction/philosophical narrations. He does a great job narrating this piece.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Beyond Good and Evil?

I really appreciated the portion of the piece in which Nietzsche discusses the free spirit. I'll hold off on my opinions as to not ruin the listen.

Which character – as performed by Kevin Theis – was your favorite?

Kevin does a great job narrating this piece and bringing each part/chapter to life. His style is consistent and you actually want to keep on listening.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

I appreciated the author's honesty about previous philosophers. And on how free spirit philosophers would replace the old, which is so true.

    Any additional comments?

This narration by Kevin was excellent!

"Well done version of a must read classic . . ."

Although I am not a big fan, nor in agreement with the overall teaching and philosophy of Nietzshe, there is little doubt that his work has had a major influence on western thought. Even after having read this title on more than one occasion, the listening to it adds a new dimension; frankly I think it makes it a bit more personal and seemsed to strike more chords with me.

Nietzsche became increasingly preoccupied with the creative powers of the individual to overcome social, cultural, and moral contexts. which this work addresses, up until the time that he lost his mental faculties while in his middle-aged years. How ironic that a mind such as his would become so twisted.

The was a fine narration in a steady pace with nice inflection. Well worth the listen even for those that are familiar with the work.

    "Pondering Morality..."
    Any additional comments?

This book centers around the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche.

It covers just about every philosophical concept from value systems to free will to interpretations of Truths.

This is not a light and carefree read but rather a complex thought provoking one..

If you are a Philosopher Major or the like, then, this is the book for you.

Kevin Theis did well with the narration.

    "Frustrating"

I found this to be very frustrating to listen to. The reader is rushing this very dense material. What is going on with the sound of fingers snapping that cuts of parts of some of the words. Very distracting.
