Publisher's Summary

"Who is John Galt?" is the immortal question posed at the beginning of Ayn Rand's masterpiece. The answer is the astonishing story of a man who said he would stop the motor of the world and did.

As passionate as it is profound, Atlas Shrugged is one of the most influential novels of our time. In it, Rand dramatizes the main tenets of objectivism, her philosophy of rational selfishness. She explores the ramifications of her radical thinking in a world that penalizes human intelligence and integrity.

Part mystery, part thriller, part philosphical inquiry, part volatile love affair, Atlas Shrugged is the book that confirmed Ayn Rand as one of the most popular novelists and most respected thinkers of the 20th century.

"A lot lost in the abridgement"

I have also listened to the unabridged Christopher Hurt version for the first 20 hours and found the story to have far more depth than this one. Sadly I was unable to navigate the chapters on my kindle on the unabridged version, so was unable to continue after accidentally resetting it to the start again. Audible kindly exchanged it for this abridged version, but the story is simply not as compelling.
I would definitely recommend going with the unabridged version if you can navigate the chapters properly on your device.

    "Phenomenal!"

I'm not even sure how I came across this audiobook as I had never even heard of it before! I'm glad I did though as I'm quite certain this is the best book I've ever listened to or read! Even more amazing is how relevant it is to what's going on the world today! The narration is fantastic as well. Going to get a hold of the book so I can read the full version!

What did you love best about Atlas Shrugged?

Should be required reading by every politician, not just the nuts on the left, but the nuts on the right. And yes, I think they are all nuts. This book is our future. Sad.
    But already occurring .

"Edward Herrmann is great, but get the unabriged"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would definitely recomment this book to a friend. I listen to it once a year.

If you’ve listened to books by Ayn Rand before, how does this one compare?

This is by far her best. yes, it may be painfully long but once done it is very satisfying.

    Any additional comments?

Just get the unabridged version. The abridged cuts way too much stuff out and makes the story hard to follow.

    "Great Book. Great Quality"

I really enjoyed this book. It is Abridged, but don't let that scare you as it is still very detailed. I didn't listen to the enabridged version, but I cannot image I missed anything. The sound quality was great. I had no issues. I think I have my settings set to download enhanced or something. The Narrater is just awesome. He is clear easy to understand and very enjoyable to listen too. He uses different voices for each character and before long you start to recognize each charater voice. This made it very easy to follow along.
I highly recommend this book. Great story, yet has a very important message. Ayn Rand wrote this book so long ago as a foresight to what will happen if the government controls society for our safety and fairness. LISTEN TO IT.

    "Thought provoking, timely,"

Ayn Rand is a wonderful writer - she illustrates her perspective beautifully, her views are not necessarily mainstream but they are well presented here.

    "Frieghtenly current"

This book was written in the 50's but has concerning applications to what happening today both in the economy and our governments involvement. You'll listen to the book and then listen to the news and will have to remind yourself you've stopped listening to the book. Amazingly appropriate for the time. I would recommend the abridged version for those with limited attention span like me....

    "Absolutely Wonderful"

As social philosophy, Atlas Shrugged is a surprisingly well-expressed work that is incorporated into a compelling storyline. The author framed his arguments in such a way that every reader can understand. Moreover, the lessons learned can be applied to today's headlines, and will undoubtedly be applicable tomorow.

"Great story and the narration was great too."

I love the way Ayn Rand perceived the world and how she was able to express it in detail through her characters.

"Now you can answer the question: Who is John Galt?"

So many people have read this book, yet I can't help but ask why the world is as it is today. How many times have we sold our souls and for what. If only we had the courage to rise to the challenge described here. The book is exceedingly long but each aspect of the story of these people is essential to fully answer the question "Who is John Galt"? Are we each the John Galt of our world?
    YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK!
