Publisher's summary

"Who is John Galt?" is the immortal question posed at the beginning of Ayn Rand's masterpiece. The answer is the astonishing story of a man who said he would stop the motor of the world and did.

As passionate as it is profound, Atlas Shrugged is one of the most influential novels of our time. In it, Rand dramatizes the main tenets of objectivism, her philosophy of rational selfishness. She explores the ramifications of her radical thinking in a world that penalizes human intelligence and integrity.

Part mystery, part thriller, part philosphical inquiry, part volatile love affair, Atlas Shrugged is the book that confirmed Ayn Rand as one of the most popular novelists and most respected thinkers of the 20th century.

The best introduction to a life changing novel.

The only way to experience Atlas Shrugged in audio form is to have Edward Herrmann read it to you. His voice, his dramatization...his genuine understanding of the mental state of the characters - both protagonists and antagonists - is without comparison.

Yes, it's abridged. But, honestly, that's an appealing part. I've read the novel in dead tree form three times and listened to the unabridged version from Audible four times. This abridged version, I believe, is the best way to experience the story. Especially for first timers who aren't sure they want to invest the time and energy in a story of this scope and subject. Trust me when I say, it's worth it.

Best Book Ever Written

Ayn Rand was a prophet a visionary way before her time.
This book should be mandatory reading by all High School students.
The parallels to current social and political events is uncanny.

Who is John Galt?

I have read Atlas Shrugged several times in the past, I seem to get more from it each time I read it. Listening to the book was a new experience, and I was able to concentrate more on John Galt's speech by listening to the Audio version.

It is seems to me that Ayn Rand was actually foretelling the future of the United States,
and the way our country is evolving.

The narrator did an excellent job.

Classic must read for the ages

I come back to this classic over and over again especially when the world seems to have gone mad with men who have no virtue. It’s a reminder to be part of the “Men of the mind” when times are tough and lonely!

The Philosophy of Individual Rights

The narrator was fantastic, because I have listened to another version, and did not like the narrator at all. However, I did not pay attention that this is an abridged version, which I do not like, because what the writer writes should be heard in full. That said, anyone who has never read Atlas Shrugged, and might not read a longer version, or be turned off by a poor narrator performance, should listen to this version or read the book!

John Gault’s speech on capitalism is a must read.

Got a little slow in the middle but the end was worth the wait, especially John Gault’s speech.

A great warning from the past!!

I gave this book a try based on a recommendation from a friend, I was not disappointed! Very good writing! The message in this book, really hit home right now with the current political unrest. Almost as a warning from the past!
