Publisher's summary

“It is a sin to write this. It is a sin to think words no others think and to put them down upon a paper no others are to see. It is base and evil.” Deep issues of conscience are explored in Ayn Rand’s dystopian tale of a man who dares to fight against a system that invades his very mind and identity.

MUST READ MANY TIMES OVER

Everyone should read this book many times over! So you'll be prepared to read it aloud to your children or employees. After I read it a few times, I thought it was juvenile in comparison to THE FOUNTAINHEAD, and ATLAS SHRUGGED, not so! After having read and/or listened each of these books many times, I see a depth unseen previously. This book is more than a mere primer for Ayn's later books, but a stand alone living book.

Short and worth it.

I really enjoy Rand's work in general so I thought I would enjoy this short book and I did but not as much as some of her other works. perhaps because it's so short it's a little cold but it's still very good and quite interesting. Like all her work it makes you think so just for that it's worth the read.

Very quick, Hard to follow at first.

I liked it, but I didn't love it. The style was certainly different than The Fountainhead or Atlas Shrugged, but the theme was unmistakably a Randian dystopia.

The narration was good, but quiet in the first few chapters and perhaps more theatrical than I was looking for. Don't get me wrong, it was good narration, but more Shakespearean than conversational.

It's a very short piece but still a worthwhile listen.

Treasure this book

If there is a last line of defense for freedom, this book is it. Shortest, concise defense of individual rights.

Wow, that was great

What made the experience of listening to Anthem the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed the story, it's appreciation of the individual, and the narrator.

Have you listened to any of B. J. Harrison’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not but will look up and see what else he has done.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Don't give away your freedom.

Any additional comments?

I had read Atlas Shrugged in the past and enjoyed it but felt it went a little long and off the rails at the end (though I think I will still get the audio book). I think this work is superior. It is a simple and short story but it has a powerful message. You really cannot have freedom for all without freedom for the individual.

Such a bizarre tale

Like a future Adam and Eve coming of age story. It was hard to grasp at first but hang in there. Well worth the listen. Just remember… we=me; they=her

Excellent.

Great narrator. Great science fiction. Potent message about finding one’s own way in life. What’s not to love?
