Publisher's summary

Alice's adventures, funny, inventive and disturbing, have fascinated children and adults alike since their publication. The White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts and the Cheshire Cat (and, of course, Alice herself) all have something "Curiouser and curiouser!" to say in this new unabridged multi-cast recording. A delightful fantasy down the rabbit hole.

Disappointed by the format

I wish the Audible.com samples were longer or that I had paid more attention before I bought this one. The narrator reads descriptions and then other voices come in with the lines of the characters. After each character speaks, the narrator says "she said" or "he said." I found it very irritating. Didn't finish it.

Harry Potter led me to this one.

I found this reading to be wonderful. Instead of one narrator with a few voice characterizations, the different characters voiced by different people is MUCH more entertaining. I was going to download the version narrated by Jim Dale, since I really enjoyed his work on all of the Harry Potter audiobooks, but, after I listened to all of the audio samples for this book, to me, this one was the best. AND, the same cast of voices are in "Through The Looking Glass", the sequel to this book, of which I will be downloading at a future date. I would recommend this recording to anyone, but I would still encourage you to listen to all of the audio samples. No matter which narrator you choose, the story itself is still a magical classic!

Fantastic story! Great show by the narrators

Would you listen to Alice in Wonderland again? Why?

Yes, again and again! Because of the wonderful conversations and the way the actors play with words. Alice is a bit silly, but there are so many weird and funny characters that I never knew were invented by Lewis Carroll, it is simply fantastic fun!

What did you like best about this story?

The conversations and events, and the way they are acted by the cast. Very entertaining!

What does David Horovitch and Jo Wyatt bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Not only David and Jo, but the audiobook has a full cast that brings the story completely to life. I even started to talk like them myself as I got totally into the story. "Off with his head!!"

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and no. Yes because of the fun, but sometimes it gets a bit tiring to listen to all the different voices. In two or three sittings however, very good indeed!

Any additional comments?

Apparently, this book is also a criticism of Victorian cultural norms. That may be, but I did not read so much in this. That might be my ignorance in the matter. It does not detract from the wonderful story though....:-)

Enjoyable

This group of narrators made Alice in Wonderland come alive. Each character's voice brought a different element to the story and eliminated the monotony of listening to one story teller. Definitely an enjoyable listen.

Loved it!

Of course Lewis Carroll's story was great, I expected that- but what was truly amazing was all the different voices that brought this story to life! I know I will listen to this classic again and again.

Never realized... I don't like Alice in Wonderland

I have always watched plays and the cartoon Alice in Wonderland and they were okay to good, but, wow, I didn't like the original and unabridged version. It was very negative, loud, aggressive, etc. The narration was fine, but I just really don't like the story. Did not even want to finish it. Yuck.

Fantastic version

Having both male and female narrators really adds to the pleasure when listening to this classic fairytale. Both narrators have beautiful voices and read with wonderful intonation. The music and singing are fantastic, too. I have the matching version for “Through the Looking Glass”. My only criticism is that it is annoying how the chaptering done by Audible do not match the chapters in the book. It’s very difficult to find a specific point and because all the chapters are lumped together I can’t use the sleep timer for end of chapter. Still a great version though because the most important thing is the narration, and it’s perfect.

Tweedle Lee Dee Tweedle Dee Dum

Alice in Wonderland, written by: Lewis Carroll, narrated by: David Horovitch , Jo Wyatt, etc. Everyone knows by now this is a story of Alice falling through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar humanlike and animal-like creatures that in response to any question comment on British society of the 1860s whether it provides an answer to the propounded question or not.

The storyline is Alice seeking to return home (after falling into the rabbit hole) to her Victorian homestead but on the way she has to understand her newly found societal explanations of what is and what is not to get to a portal to return her to England. In reality, her new society speaks jargon much like her English home, but that her Wonderland experience is distinguished only by the fact that what everyone says is more obviously topsy-turvy as compared to the normal everyday British doublespeak. It makes for a titillating listen. It turns your mind up and down, back and forth and inside and out.

The story is elemental and so, even children will understand and get the gags and the resulting giggles as well. Yet a warning. As good as it is, it is not as good as the 1951 Disney production. Yet, get it, read it and have a tweedle lee dee tweedle dee dum day.

Rather Watch It

A great story and the book is a classic but nothing can compare to the visual effects produced on the big screen.
