Deeply bro-y
Proust continues tripping over himself and his varied loves as dumb young man. As a recently less young, dumb man I enjoyed his recounting his lit summers in Balbec and identified with his teen age problems. I had a harder time following along with his commentary on aesthetics which seemed more prominent than in ACDCSwan. Proust paints himself as a jumpy, emo, dweeb /hipster. I lightly regretted his lack of socio political commentary at the level of ACDCSwan, but Balbec seems like a deep dive into a slice of the hawt bourgeoise not unlike some of the lake / shoreside communities in the US. Keep reading, may the french comp be with you.
