Publisher's summary

The facts are that a canary is dead, as is Mr. Foster. His wife, Minnie, is the prime suspect. Sheriff Peters can't crack the case, but two clever women can. Glaspell originally wrote the story as a play entitled Trifles in 1916.

Old time tale with modern day DV depth

At once a quick novella and a slow burn as two women realize the nature of a man’s murder. Remarkably prescient on the topic of domestic violence for a century old book (maybe because it’s technically a re-write of a century old play). If you like old-time legal mysteries, told in the style of a play or radio, try The Missing Mr. Lee, an Audible freebie with a great ensemble cast.

The expanded version of Trifles

Grateful for the free audiobook. Expands on the play Trifles. Helpful in understanding the play. Easy to get the two women confused, wish the narrator had done something different to help tell who was talking.

Wow

What a story. I'm speechless. But this review site demands that my review be 15 words minimum, so here I am wasting your time. 5/5

Enchanting

Terrific story, wonderful narration, never underestimate the power of a woman’s intuition and the arrogance of a man’s self confidence.

The Insight of Some Wise Women

This short story, originally wrote in 1916, is one of the best tales I've come across. The bumbling, self-absorbed sheriff couldn't find his own rear end with both hands . . . but the neighborhood women, come to find some clothes for the jailed Minnie Foster, suspected of killing her husband, have their eyes . . . and hearts wide open to exactly what has been going on in the Foster household . . . albeit a little too late. 😢 The discovery of the bird cage and the tiny broken body of the canary . . . well, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I'm going to look for more from this author. Excellent audio.
