Publisher's Summary

Summer has come to Busman's Harbor, Maine, and tourists are lining up for a taste of authentic New England seafood, courtesy of the Snowden Family Clambake Company. But there's something sinister on the boil this season. A killer has crashed a wedding party, adding mystery to the menu at the worst possible moment…

Julia Snowden returned to her hometown to rescue her family's struggling clambake business - not to solve crimes. But that was before a catered wedding on picturesque Morrow Island turned into a reception for murder. When the best man's corpse is found hanging from the grand staircase in the Snowden family mansion, Julia must put the chowder pot on the back burner and join the search for the killer. And with suspicion falling on her old crush, Chris Durand, the recipe for saving her business and salvaging her love life might be one and the same…

Clambakes can be deadly!!

This new Maine Clambake Series starts off with a hanging body at a wedding. Not a good thing for a wedding celebration or the Snowden Family Clambake Company. Julia Snowden has left her high power job in New York to try and keep her family's floundering business from going under. Everything has been invested to keep it going, including her Mom's house, their boat, and the island where they have their clambakes.

I really enjoyed this book as the mystery took a few twisting turns and the conclusion was different but very believable. Also enjoyed the emphasis on family sticking together--those by blood and those by long time friendships. The hints at future romantic entanglements between a few of the characters left me wanting to get right into the next book. Recipes were included, and the food descriptions in the book made me feel like I was right there at the clambake. Winning start to this new series!

I listened to this on audio and really enjoyed the added dramatics. I'm finding that cozy reads are really fun to listen to as well as to read.

Entertaining Cozy Mystery

Clammed Up is a delightful beginning to the Maine Clambake Mystery series by Barbara Ross. From the start I was engrossed by the story and the hurdles before protagonist Julia Snowden in her quest to save her family's clambake. I felt Julia's heartache as her troubles piled up. The reader did a superb job and the book ended with a cliffhanger of the sort that absolutely makes me want to go straight on to book 2 in the series. Highly recommended to cozy mystery readers.

Good Story, Horrible Reader!!

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Change the narrator! Overly dramatic performance takes away from the listening experience.

Would you be willing to try another one of Dara Rosenberg’s performances?

Only if there is a different reader

Any additional comments?

This is a nice story. Not too complicated of a story but is an easy listen while relaxing at the beach or just doing everyday tasks. I was looking for a new series but unfortunately this will not be it.

Great series

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have recommended this book to friends and family. My daughter in law was already reading it. We both love it.

Any additional comments?

The narrator does such a good job with the southern accent and the different characters. Her timing is spot on. Don't miss this series.

Change the Narrator!!!

This is an interesting story, but this will be the only one in this series that I listen to. I have checked and the same narrator does all of them. She is just too overly dramatic for me. It's a shame because I think it could be an enjoyable series.

I tried to finish at least one chapter, but I just can't. It is too late to return it, but I will not be finishing it.

Overly dramatic narration

I liked the mystery, but the over-the-top narration was a distraction. I can't imagine the author envisioned her heroine sounding quite that unstable. I had hoped to find a new series for Audible, but I think I'll switch to Kindle for this one.

JUST DISCOVERED THIS GREAT SERIES

FULL OF TWISTS AND TURNS, EMOTIONS, GREAT CHARACTERS, AND EVEN THE POTENTIAL FOR SOME ROMANCE, THIS IS A GREAT FIND FOR ME. I HAVE ALREADY BOUGHT BOOK 2 AND PLAN ON SOME BINGE LISTENING WITH THIS SERIES.

Ghastly narrated!

Light mystery. Not super interesting or engaging. The narrator is horrible...she makes the book hard to finish.

Clammed Up

Barbara Ross has written a good story for the first in the series. Dara Ross gave a good performance bringing it all to life.

Fun book. Narrator was mischosen.

If you could sum up Clammed Up in three words, what would they be?

Good regional story.

What didn’t you like about Dara Rosenberg’s performance?

She is a fine reader. But her voice makes the book sound like it took place in Racine or Terre Haute. I was expecting a regional manner consistent with downeast Maine. The main character sounds less like a venture capitalist and more like a college cheerleader.

Any additional comments?

We bought this book to listen to on a trip to Maine. The plot was interesting as were the characters It became more interesting when we realized the fictional town is actually BoothBay Harbor. We hope to patronize the clambake company (whose name you can easily find with a little search) while there. We enjoyed the book. It could have been so much more with a different narrator.
