Publisher's Summary

Jax survived the Smugglers Path, as did most of his party, but he's suffered losses, found out just how far he's willing to go for Oracle, and seen his own darker side...as have his followers.

The City of Himnel crawls with depravity, violence, and backstabbing, and if Jax wants to keep his people, supply his growing war-machine, and have any kind of a chance at survival, he needs to not only survive there, he needs to rob it blind!

Jax's simple, honest, and straightforward methods of dealing with people would usually equate to a snowman vs. a flamethrower's chance at survival, except he's got some new tricks, some new allies, and gives even less of a damn than usual about the odds.

Join Jax, Oracle, and the squad as they explore Himnel, fight in the Arena and gather other waifs and strays not to mention making new, and far more powerful enemies than he ever dreamt he would encounter.

Find out what happened to Thomas, why the Legion is hated and reviled, and if Jax ever manages to get his hearts desire...namely a cold beer, people to leave him the hell alone, and Oracle, naked, and some "quality" time uninterrupted!

BOOK 3 IN THIS SERIES IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

I COULDN'T STOP LISTENING! EVEN THO I HAVE THE REST OF THIS SERIES IN MY LIBRARY, THIS ONE WAS SO GOOD I LISTENED TO IT TWICE BEFORE GOING TO BOOK 4 ! THE NON-STOP ACTION IS DESCRIBED SO WELL I CAN SEE THE IMAGES IN MY HEAD AND IT FEELS AS THO I AM EXPERIENCING THE ACTIONS MYSELF! STARTING TO CARE FOR SOME OF THE CHARACTERS LIKE THEY ARE REAL PEOPLE. REALLY GREAT WRITING, REALLY GREAT STORY AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO EVERYONE. I LITERALLY JUST FINISHED "CITY OF FALLEN SOULS" FOR MY SECOND LISTEN AND CAME TO WRITE THIS REVIEW SO I CAN GO START BOOK 4, "TITAN". JUST THE BEST LITRPG I'VE FOUND IN A VERY LONG TIME!

Interesting world, Decent Story, Bad Characters

I feel very torn about this series. I like the world that is being built, and the story is actually pretty good. However, the characters are cringeworthy, mostly one-dimensional, and static. The romantic sub plot is the worst. I have to just fast forward through it constantly. The monologuing is also pretty obnoxious, especially when it is about earth politics.

The MC doesn't seem to have any need to evolve because every time he makes a mistake it either turns out fine, or someone tells him how they don't mind because he's so great. But, at least he has more than one motivation. Everyone else is a completely one dimensional stereotype. Oh, and they all just adore the MC unless they are super evil.

The narrator is definitely a detriment to the story as others have noted. If it weren't for the issues above though I would tolerate it for the story. with all these things combined though I just can't bring myself to go any further.

still good but. . .

the main plotline still satisfies. the pacing is good and the story continues. the romantic subplot got more cringeworthy and my one complaint besides the stat lines that arent simplified yet, is the over description in some scenes. like in the middle of a life or death fight the monologues are terrible. ill still continue with the series. still worth the time and credit. but maybe take a break between books.

Oracle’s voice

This series has been a rollercoaster of emotions and I’ve loved every second of it. Literally anybody could enjoy these books. I only wish Wayne would’ve had an actual woman voice oracle. Don’t come for me i just don’t think the voice is sexy when everything about her is described as sexy. I’m still waiting for fan art as well. I’m having a hard time picturing the ?Gen? and what the Sky Kings was. Can’t wait to start the next book and learn more of the realm!

MC gets upset over every death of a nobody

MC gets super depressed when minor characters who dont even have names die, and is constantly told that the people died for a cause except he forgets what hes told in 20 min when the next pointless character dies. iss one thing for a character with a name, but to spend about 2 chapters or 20-30minutes of being sappy over a characters that contributed nothing to the whole story is dull and boring story writing and is only to up word count.

Meh

The story is well written and the performance is decent, however it feels like 60% of the book is just combat scenes and not a lot of character development. The other downside to this book is that the romance between the MC and his wisp feels pretty stale at this point. Overall it's not bad and probably worth a credit.

Oracle is just so bad

the romance is cringe had to skip it every time. for some reason oracle is becoming more and more arbitrary one minute she seems a fighter the next a flower child sad that the world is not rainbows. she kills some enemies all good Mc kills the enemy before they attack him how can he be such a monster. I just can put in to words how frustrating that character comes off.

Stunning Audio

Already im desperate for my next in the series as we leave on a bit of a cliff hanger amid daring escapades. I Love the characters especially Jax and Mal and some might find the tight nit banter a bit excessive, but this makes this stand out even better in the audio where the jokes just make you chuckle and immerse yourself deeper. Hoping this is a massive series as there is a lot to explore in the present, past and the future and it needs the attention to detail of an epic saga.

Grating voices

Great story, but the voices are horrendous. Whenever you get used to one grating “British” voice, another, even worse, “Scottish” will follow. Jacks sounds like Jim Jeffery’s badly impersonating Carl urban in The Boys. There are hundreds of amazing voice actors, why would you choose the one who does accents worse than brad pitts German accent in 7 years in Tibet?
