Like Tapas

I don't generally read short stories, but this series was surprisingly fun with mostly strong episodes to make up Cinderella P.I.'s files. There was a good laugh in each case/chapter and an interesting dramatic twist on each myth that staged the backdrop for an older-and-wiser-and-married-with-children Cinderella.

The ongoing characters in her life deepened from chapter to chapter. I thought it struck a nice balance between whimsy and reality. For example, to see Cinderella make a mistake in her relationship at one point, own up to it, and then be easily forgiven, as might happen from time to time in a healthy non-sitcom marriage, felt much more romantically enjoyable than any 50 shades of nonsense. One-shot characters were sometimes a bit thin like the goth girl (IMO) and other times a revelation like the Gingerbread Man.

The reader's delivery was so on-point I hardly noticed it, which is the best thing that can be said of any reading, I think.

Life is rather busy for us all, and to listen to a quick, fun story for 15 minutes is like a snack of good fiction. Recommended to liven up short drives or weeknight dinner preps!
