Acerca de esta escucha
A man returns to the town where a baffling murder took place 27 years earlier, determined to get to the bottom of the story. Just hours after marrying the beautiful Angela Vicario, everyone agrees, Bayardo San Roman returned his bride in disgrace to her parents. Her distraught family forced her to name her first lover; and her twin brothers announced their intention to murder Santiago Nasar for dishonoring their sister.
Yet if everyone knew the murder was going to happen, why did no one intervene to stop it? The more that is learned, the less is understood, and as the story races to its inexplicable conclusion, an entire society - not just a pair of murderers - is put on trial.

Historia
One of the 20th century's enduring works, One Hundred Years of Solitude is a widely beloved and acclaimed novel known throughout the world and the ultimate achievement in a Nobel Prize-winning career. The novel tells the story of the rise and fall of the mythical town of Macondo through the history of the Buendía family. Rich and brilliant, it is a chronicle of life, death, and the tragicomedy of humankind. In the beautiful, ridiculous, and tawdry story of the Buendía family, one sees all of humanity, just as in the history, myths, growth, and decay of Macondo, one sees all of Latin America.

Historia
Gabriel García Márquez’s most political novel is the tragic story of General Simón Bolívar, the man who tried to unite a continent. General Simon Bolívar, known in six Latin American countries as the Liberator, is one of the most revered heroes of the western hemisphere; in García Márquez’s brilliant reimagining, he is magnificently flawed as well. The novel follows Bolívar as he takes his final journey in 1830 down the Magdalena River toward the sea, revisiting the scenes of his former glory and lamenting his lost dream of an alliance of American nations.

Leaf Storm is the first book García Márquez wrote. Already we see the colorful historical background that forms the basis for his later work. It covers the history of Macondo from 1903 to 1928, ending the year the author was born. A man dies, and three people reflect on the story of Macondo’s boom and decline as shown in the family fortunes over three generations. As they attend the wake, the members of the family recall the tragedy that involves them all.

Historia
In 1955, García Márquez was working for El Espectador, a newspaper in Bogota, when in February of that year eight crew members of the Caldas, a Colombian destroyer, were washed overboard and disappeared. Ten days later one of them turned up, barely alive, on a deserted beach in northern Colombia. This book, which originally appeared as a series of newspaper articles, is García Márquez’s account of that sailor’s ordeal.

Historia
A masterpiece of the surreal that influenced a generation of writers in Latin America, Pedro Páramo is the otherworldly tale of one man’s quest for his lost father. That man swears to his dying mother that he will find the father he has never met—Pedro Páramo—but when he reaches the town of Comala, he finds it haunted by memories and hallucinations. There emerges the tragic tale of Páramo himself, and the town whose every corner holds the taint of his rotten soul.

Historia
Leaf Storm is the first book García Márquez wrote. Already we see the colorful historical background that forms the basis for his later work. It covers the history of Macondo from 1903 to 1928, ending the year the author was born. A man dies, and three people reflect on the story of Macondo’s boom and decline as shown in the family fortunes over three generations. As they attend the wake, the members of the family recall the tragedy that involves them all.

Historia

What am I not getting here?
Very straight ahead story of a murder. Not overly graphic, no plot twists or mystery, no real suspense. It reads like a police report. I was excited to pick it up based on the reviews, but honestly there just wasn’t a lot here to enjoy. Still tho, it has great reviews (other than mine), so maybe I’m just missing something?

a straightforward tale
The story is fairly simple and as one of the other reviewers said, it flows like a report. Almost like a retelling of a story by a journalist or something of that nature. Great narration, but the story doesn't really stand out in any way.
The most interesting aspect is the narrator within the tale itself and how Marquez chose to write the story from this character's perspective.
If you're a big fan of Marquez, I guess it is worth the listen. If not, I think there are better works of his to check out.

Good short read
Short read and interesting story, especially if you like murder mysteries. Also, interesting cultural and societal exploration. Not my favorite story overall.
