Publisher's Summary
Raising his three rambunctious children on a small farm in Shallow Gorge, Colorado, Billy Spence is at his wits’ end. It’s hard enough to eke out a living in such a rough area; it’s even harder caring for three little ones on his own. He’s desperate for a solution and would sure like to have one by Christmas....
After her last living relative succumbs to the Russian flu that cold December, Alice Fletcher wants to leave her nursing job in New York and settle somewhere new and fresh. But she doesn’t know where to even start. She’s desperate for an answer....
Billy’s advert for a mail-order bride by Christmas turns out to be just what both of them need - at least, that’s how it appears. But between Billy’s reluctance to let himself love again, Alice’s need for honesty, and a dastardly plot to take Billy’s farm from him by the New Year, things aren’t exactly going smoothly in Shallow Gorge.
Only two things can bring these two people together when they’re as different as Billy and Alice: understanding and love.

I am disappointed with the ending! No real resolution for a marriage or the legal problems.
The narration was very good, and the story was enjoyable until it was over. It's like we're missing a chapter or two.

Enjoyable read!
This was short, but sweet. The characters were fun and well developed. This dad sure had his hands full, thankfully help was on the way... or was it? He sent for a mail order bride, but it just doesn't seem to be coming together like he planned, things keep coming up and distracting him. What is he going to do... his children need a mother. I really enjoyed this sweet and clean book and I recommend it.
The narrative was done very well.
I was gifted a copy of this audiobook from the author and I am voluntarily leaving this review.

Quick easy listen!
I enjoy mail order bride novellas and this one is no exception. We meet Alice. She is a nurse, and finds herself alone after the death of her parents. After being matched with Billy, she travels west to meet her new husband. But is he ready to marry? Billy is a widower with three children. He is very protective and really isn't sure about this arrangement. And when he gets bad news, he is considering call the whole thing off. Will these two find a happy medium and communicate? There definitely were times in this story where Billy got on my nerves, but I chalked it up to stubborn man and moved on. The story flows and gives us a great view of Colorado at the time. It's a sweet romance.
Colleen Weaver tells us this story and it's my first listen by her. I enjoyed her voices and found she fits the characters with a voice that is realistic and believable. Her pace is easy and voice pleasant making it an enjoyable listen.

If you like a short historical romance, this one is nice. I personally like a more fully developed story with more characters and side stories. But for those looking for a short novel, this one is sweet. I’m sure you’d enjoy it.

good story
A fun story set in colorado. she is a nurse in NYC & lost her close family to sickness. She decided to answer an ad for a bride & traveled west by train.
He dutifully met her @ the station & visited a couple times @ the hotel.
The most interesting part was in chapter 11 when he rushes out of his neighbor's house. The reader is left thinking he's going after the girl.
when re-published, I hope the author adds an epilogue to enhance the ending.
