Publisher's summary

A Pride and Prejudice variation.

Mr. Darcy hopes Christmastime will help him to forget the pair of fine eyes he left behind in Hertfordshire. When Elizabeth Bennet appears unexpectedly in London, Darcy decides to keep his distance, resolved to withstand his attraction to her. But when he learns Wickham is threatening to propose to Elizabeth, Darcy faces a crisis.

For her part, Elizabeth does not understand why the unpleasant master of Pemberley insists on dancing with her at the Christmas ball or how his eyes happen to seek her out so often. She enjoys Mr. Wickham’s company and is flattered when he makes her an offer of marriage. On the other hand, Mr. Darcy’s proposal is unexpected and unwelcome.

But the more Elizabeth learns of Mr. Darcy, the more confused she becomes - as she prepares to make the most momentous decision of her life.

It’s a yuletide season of love and passion as your favorite characters enjoy Christmas at Darcy House!

Bad reader ruins story

A good story ruined by the worst reader I’ve heard. Darcy is so pretentious, Elizabeth would never have been interested

Great story, but the narrator’s Darcy...

Great story, but the narrator’s Darcy, well he sounds about as disinterested and bored as you can get in several spots where he should have a bit more character. I’d give her 3-½ stars. The story was super fun, I loved Caroline’s ending!

Clean steamy P&P variation

Story: 2 stars

It’s an Ok plot. A bit far fetched in places but also fun, if you are in the right mood.

It relies a bit too heavily on physical attraction, which is a shame. (One reviewer said it was PG-13 and I agree with that rating) I have always felt that, although they are both passionate people, Elizabeth and Darcy have self-control and are extremely conscious of social mores. But I suppose that’s what a P&P variation does; reinvents the characters to a certain degree.

And, as seems to be the case with most P&P variations, Elizabeth’s wit is absent. (Sigh…)

Narration: 5 stars

Julia Eve does an excellent job with the material she’s been given. Her accent, various voices and expression are spot on! She’s a go-to voice narrator for me!

Great story.

This book has the perfect mix of all the elements we love in an exceptional romance. The characters are very well constructed and the have depth and chemistry. This is a page turner that will have you cheering for the growing relationship between Elizabeth & William. Julia Eve does a fantastic job narrating. She is my favorite historical narrator.

Ah

I love Victoria Kincaid's books and this one did not disappoint. Darcy really bumbled his original proposal but it was interesting nonetheless. I really enjoyed the fact that Caroline Bingley and Wickham received their own comeuppance.
The narration was okay but could have been better.

A Fun Christmas Story

Ms. Kincaid has successfully written another delightful Bennett-Darcy story with lots of entertaining misunderstandings, twists and turns. Such fun to listen to the book.

Fun and entertaining!

Narrator did a good job; her voice fits the time period for the story. A good listening experience.

This book starts when Elizabeth is visiting her aunt and uncle. She’s already met Darcy and the rest, and has formed her not very good opinions about Darcy and her completely wrong positive opinion of Wickham. Lizzy is a bit more gullible towards Wickham in this story, but Darcy won’t allow Wickham to mess with Lizzy. Darcy doesn’t exactly make the best choices, but how he feels for Lizzy makes him act a bit crazy. Loved getting Darcy’s POV! It was great to see the depth of his love for Lizzy. Plus, I loved seeing more of Lizzy and Darcy’s relationship building up and seeing the passion of their connection. On top of dealing with Lizzy’s unfavorably opinion of Darcy, they have other obstacles in their way; Wickham and Miss Bingley are up to no good. This story was fun! It was great to get another look at the Pride and Prejudice story; makes me want to go watch one of the movies! Entertaining!

Fell Short for Me

I am sad to say, this variation fell short for me. I have read and enjoyed other books by Victoria Kincaid and narrations by Julie Eve, so I had very high expectations for this book.

I wanted to love this book so much, but I just had a hard time staying focused and engaged. I thought the idea of the story was interesting. I felt I understood what was going on in Darcy's head even more. The events that happened were so interesting, and yet they could not hold my attention. There were interesting twists and character involvement, and I still struggled.

Julia Eve, I enjoyed her narration overall, but I found at times Darcy needed to be a bit more excited about events going on in his life. I know he is reserved, but even still a bit more emotion would have been good at times.

I really feel this is a book that could still be involved by Jane Austen lovers if you do not mind variations that are quite unique. I have never read another Pride and Prejudice retelling quite like this. I really feel like everything I mentioned, are aspects I normally love, and so, I do plan to try listening to it again in the future and will update my review accordingly.

I received a copy of this audiobook at my request, and I have voluntarily left this review.

Very Entertaining!

I don' t normally go for variations of the Pride & Prejudice story but this one was really good and I enjoyed it so much.
We already know the characters from the original Pride & Prejudice story but Victoria Kincaid seems to have made them even more real, in my opinion.
The passion flows beautifully yet it is a very 'clean' story.
I love her style of writing and it is obvious that she has put a lot of thought into her story.
Julia Eve has done a splendid job of bringing all the characters to life and this helps with making it even more entertaining.
I enjoyed it so much that I am happy to recommend it to you, a potential reader, as a story with a difference.
I requested and listened to an audiobook version and my voluntary review above is unbiased.
