Publisher's summary

"This tender love story between two wounded people whom God brings together for healing is a book readers will enjoy anytime—but especially at Christmas"—Francine Rivers, New York Times bestselling author of Redeeming Love and A Voice in the Wind

Amid war and the fading dream of the Confederacy, a wounded soldier and a destitute widow discover the true meaning of Christmas—and sacrificial love.

Recently widowed, Aletta Prescott struggles to hold life together for herself and her six-year-old son. With the bank threatening to evict them, she discovers an advertisement for the Women's Relief Society auction and applies for a position—only to discover it's been filled. Then a chance meeting with a wounded soldier offers another opportunity—and friendship. But can Aletta trust this man?

Captain Jake Winston, a revered Confederate sharpshooter, suffered a head wound at the Battle of Chickamauga. When doctors deliver their diagnosis, Jake fears losing not only his greatest skill but his very identity. As he heals, Jake is ordered to assist with a local Women's Relief Society auction. He respectfully objects. Kowtowing to a bunch of "crinolines" isn't his idea of soldiering. But orders are orders, and he soon discovers this group of ladies—one, in particular—is far more than he bargained for.

Set against the backdrop and history of the Carnton Plantation in Franklin, Tennessee, Christmas at Carnton is a story of hope renewed and faith restored at Christmas.

The places and era the story was written about

The entire story was well written and enjoyable. I liked all the characters and the
Christian examples they showed.

Its worth your time to read this one.

I visited the Carnton plantation just outside of Nashville Tennessee and found this book, so I thought it would be a nice compliment to the visit. It was, nice interweave of history and a love story. Really gave me a picture of the times. I really liked the reader

short and sweet!

I had no idea how much I love feel good books! I really like Tamera Alexander's books and this is no different. I wish it was longer, but it's short and sweet! My only problem is the narrator, it was way too fast, but I was able to slow it down to make it better!

Another exceptional story from Tamera Alexander.

Tamera has taken us back in history again, with her wonderful story and attention to detail. Her writing is exquisite, which is why she's one of my favorites. I enjoyed the friendship between Tempy and Aleta. Jake and Aleta's journey is lovely, and a must read. I'm excited for the Carnton Series.

Story good; writing marginal

I rolled my eyes a lot at the sappy writing. The story itself was good, but could have been told in a much better way. The narrator has a good voice, but was a bit monotone and boring. I nearly returned the book several times.

Wonderful and Imaginitive

COULD BARELY PUT IT DOWN. I listened to this story in my every free moment - each time, excited to pick up where I'd left off.

I've listened to the other books in this series and enjoyed learning just a bit more about the characters at Carnton.

There is just enough suspense and hidden messaging to keep you enthralled. The descriptive story telling had me imagining the sights, sounds, and smells of the various parts. Great Job!

Wonderful feel good story

I listened at Christmas. It’s like a feel good Hallmark movie. A little predictable but very good. I also appreciate the historical fiction.

This truly brings the Christmas Spirit.

I love the story telling of this author. I recognize Captain Jones from a different novel by the same author. I love all her books.
