Although immediately smitten by Gabe when she meets him for the first time in Colorado, Eva finds the holiday spirit sorely lacking in the downtrodden town of Savior Falls. Once a thriving resort, the town’s stores have mostly closed, and its people appear dreary and demoralized.
Eva comes to find out why as what starts as a promising romance with handsome Gabe soon begins to lose its luster as the eager man she met through correspondence courtship withdraws his affection for some unknown reason, then takes an unexpected trip to Denver.
Inspired by a mysterious well on the property, Eva, a translationist by trade, pours her heart out into her dictationist’s notebook in the form of stories and diary entries until Gabe returns. Much to her horror, instead of being happy to see her, he sends her packing right before Christmas. Neither of them guesses that the saving grace they both seek — and the solution to their problems — sits under their very noses, right within their grasp.
