Publisher's summary

Maggie Foster has a reputation for pouring her heart into her work. As a nurse in training in one of Philadelphia’s many hospitals, she has no shortage of patients who appreciate her care – but when the hospital is suddenly closed, she finds herself at loose ends.

Accepting a marriage proposal seems to be her only option. Soon she finds herself engaged to a man she’s never met – but the surprises she anticipates aren’t the surprises she finds once she arrives in Miles Gulch, Wyoming.

A kind stranger, Hannah Grant, tells Maggie her husband-to-be has succumbed to a terrible illness. At a loss for what to do next, Maggie gratefully accepts Hannah’s offer of shelter during the Christmas season, and she quickly finds herself becoming part of the Grant household – Hannah, her daughter Emma, and her son Oliver—the handsome, taciturn blacksmith of Miles Gulch who intrigues her at every turn.

A good Historical Romance

A historical romance with some angst thrown in to make the story more memorable.

Look forward to more by this author.

Sweet Christmas story!

Maggie Foster has a reputation for pouring her heart into her work. As a nurse in training in one of Philadelphia’s many hospitals, she has no shortage of patients who appreciate her care – but when the hospital is suddenly closed, she finds herself at loose ends. She knew that there were women finding husbands through the matrimonial office, so she began to write to a man named Mr. John Miller of Wyoming. When he asks her to marry him, she's happy that she won't have to spend Christmas alone this year. But when she arrives in Philadelphia, there's a surprise waiting for her. Mr. John Miller passed away just before she arrived and she has nowhere to go. Hannah Grant is a pillar of the community and she offers to take her in until she finds a solution. Hannah's adult children, Emma and Oliver, have different reactions to the stranger in the house. Emma is so excited to have a new friend and Oliver can't quite understand the feeling that he has when he looks at her. Oliver's heart is still broken after he found out that the woman he was going to ask to marry him was already promised to another man. He has no room in his heart, but it appears that it is coming to life again. This is such a sweet and sexy story of a much more peaceful time. The narration was very well done by Dini Steyn. Her dynamic voice, delightful accent, the pace at which she reads and the emotions she brings to each character makes this book come to life.

This is a delightful mail order bride Christmas story with some sadness, but a lot of love. Maggie Foster is a nurse in training in Philadelphia, treating her own patients and thrilled that she will be getting more training at the hospital, but now that it's going to close, she's at a loss for where to go next. She's heard of the matrimonial office and how many marriages have begun as a mail order bride, so she decides to take that step. She began to write to a man named Mr. Oliver's heart is still broken after he found out that the woman he was about to ask to marry him was already promised to another man. As he gets to know Maggie, a type of hope begins to bloom. He has gone all this time, thinking he has no room in his heart, but it appears that it is coming to life again. This is such a sweet and sexy story of a much more peaceful time. The narration was very well done by Dini Steyn. Her dynamic voice, delightful accent, the pace at which she reads and the emotions she brings to each character makes this book come to life.

Couldn’t get into

Very light and easy listening, but I had a really hard time getting into this book. The narrator did a really good job, but the story just wasn’t for me.
