An interesting start and interesting second half.

The latter part of the book was the most interesting with some good characters and twists. I'm sure it's incredibly difficult to narrate the feel, tone, setting, and characters of a story, so I applaud this narration that was very well done with a couple of caveats. Some of the voices felt a little forced to me. I also felt Jacob's voice was sometimes misinterpreted. For example, for such a kind, loving man, his tone could have been more instructive to his son, rather than coming across as snappish. And I would have loved to see more snippets of spark here and there for Mattie. Those are minor things in an overall good work, so I will definitely be looking for the next in the series.

Love historical romance

What made the experience of listening to Cherry Tree Lane the most enjoyable?

Set in Wiltshire in 1910, the story tells how Mattie and her sisters make up their minds to escape before it is too late. There is little time to plan, and not much money, but the younger girls have a boyfriend who is willing to help them vanish. Mattie, fighting a heavy cold, opts to go alone and, when her money runs out, sets off to walk to Bristol. Within hours, she is near death in a rainstorm, and though a small boy returning home from school finds her and brings his father, Mattie’s life hangs in the balance for many days.

Anna Jacobs at her best.

Such a pleasure to listen to.
I adore her books and whilst I’m working I click on my audible & I visit the past.
I would highly recommend more of her beautiful stories to be released on here as I’ve nearly made me way through them all.

Enjoyable story

If you could sum up Cherry Tree Lane in three words, what would they be?

Innocent, growing love

What did you like best about this story?

I'm from Swindon and know the places in the story. Bought back a lot of happy memories.

What didn’t you like about Nicolette McKenzie’s performance?

Not a Wiltshire accent. More like Norfolk/Suffolk. I was disappointed by the accent, I'm from Swindon and know the accent well.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

no

Any additional comments?

I have read this trilogy of books and thought I'd let someone else read it to me now.

Vote for the underdog

A brutal stepfather beats his eldest daughter before selling her off for marriage and threatening to continue his tyrannical ways with the remaining two girls. They all escape, leaving the stepfather bitter and vowing to find them. The eldest collapses, near death and is nursed back to health by a widowed man and his two children.

The local lady of the manor takes an interest in her and continues aiding her while the stepfather seeks her out.
