On this episode of Mind Control your hosts Mikey AKA Audible484 & Corey AKA Un1verse celebrate 4/20 with a special episode dedicated to Cheech & Chong’s 1978 film, Up In Smoke.
Up In Smoke was released on September 15, 1978 and was written by the comedy duo Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong. The film was directed by Lou Adler as well as Tommy Chong who is uncredited as director but would later go on to direct the follow up films, Cheech and Chong’s Next Movie, The Corsican Brothers, Still Smoking and many others. Up In Smoke stars Cheech Marin as Pedro and Tommy Chong as “Man”, 2 stoners who are also aspiring rockstars that end up on a wild adventure eventually leading them to smuggling a van made entirely of marijuana from Mexico to LA all while being chased by Sgt Stedenko played by Stacy Keach. Cheech and Chong became a famous comedy duo in the 1970’s and 1980’s with their grammy award winning comedy albums as well as their stand up routines and their many films that followed. Cheech Marin was born on July 13, 1946 in South Los Angeles California. Tommy Chong was born on May 24, 1938 in Edmonton, Canada. The duo first met in 1968 where they began doing their comedy routines in a strip club that Chong’s family owned in a shady part of Vancouver, Canada. The rest is a hazey history
