Story
The call came on a Tuesday evening in the middle of August at around 9:30. It was from an old school friend that Harry Starke hadn't heard from in almost five years, and he hadn't thought about him in almost as long. Tom Sattler wanted to meet with Harry urgently, and it wouldn't wait until morning. When Harry arrived at Sattler's luxury home less than an hour later, he found him dead, lying in a pool of blood, a single gunshot wound to the head, and .22 revolver lying close to his hand.

Story
Harry Starke loves a cold case, but this one is really cold - more than a hundred years cold. Family Matters is a whimsical tale, a flight of fancy. It takes place on the lonely coast of Maine, where Amanda, a true believer in the paranormal, has inherited - you guessed it - a haunted house. Or at least that's what the rumors say. The inheritance comes with a request to look into the disappearance of Elizabeth, Amanda's great-great-grandmother, more than a hundred years ago.

Story
It takes only one phone call to turn Harry Starke into a monster. It begins when Harry's kid brother is brutally murdered, his body thrown into the murky waters of the Tennessee River. That alone would be enough to set Harry on the warpath, but less than 24 hours after the body is found, Harry finds out there's a bounty on his head, too. $25,000. His answer? Strike first and strike hard. And so it begins. Harry and his army of three must go up against old enemies, but they face almost insurmountable odds.

Story
When a joint FBI-Seattle Police investigation of an international child pornography ring gets too close to certain powerful people, sex-crimes detective Livia Lone becomes the target of a hit that barely goes awry - a hit that had been offered to John Rain, a retired specialist in “natural causes.” Suspecting the FBI itself was behind the attack, Livia reaches out to former Marine sniper Dox. Publisher's Summary
They found Angela Hartwell lying in the shallow waters beside the golf course. There was not a mark on her, yet she was dead, strangled. How could that be?
Once again, it's up to Harry Starke to find out. The investigation takes him into a world he's very familiar with, a world of affluence, privilege, and corruption.
To solve the mystery, he must deal with three murders, a beautiful used car dealer, her lovely twin sisters, and a crooked banker. Not to mention Burke and Hare, two crazy repo men who will stop at nothing to protect their employer's interests. There's also the matter of an ingenious, sadistic killer. But nothing is ever quite what it seems.

Wrecked Em Hell! Almost Killed Em!
Would you consider the audio edition of Checkmate to be better than the print version?
I haven't yet read the Kindle version. This is a favorite series, so I plan to read all of the series.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Harry Starke. He's the main character and in the middle of the action.
What about Tom Lennon’s performance did you like?
The voice acting almost lets you become an actual player in the story! Excellent pacing, good clear voice!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Very much Entertained! I do get a bit choked up when the audio book gets near the end. LOL
Any additional comments?
If you enjoy action, mystery, Noir then this a good series. All the Harry Starke books are "stand alone". I would recommend reading / listening in order, but that's your perogative.
