Publisher's summary

In Chasing Down the Dawn, recording artist, actress, and best-selling author Jewel opens her intimate journals to create a vivid montage of the people, places, and relationships that colored the life she came from and have marked this past magical, turbulent, and ultimately transformational year of her life.

Drawn from her remarkable chronicle of life on the road during the Spirit World Tour, this unforgettable collection of freeze-frames captures unusual images from Jewel's childhood in Alaska, her beginnings as a struggling artist, and her challenges as a daughter, sister, and woman. Jewel paints an unblinkingly honest picture of the exceptional journey that carried her to the world's stage.

With acutely observed, elegantly written depictions of the musicians, lovers, strangers, celebrities, and other characters that inhabit the singer/songwriter's world, Chasing Down the Dawn is more than a collection of vignettes, observations, and stories. It is a finely wrought mosaic in prose and poetry, set to the rhythm of life.

The Path Lived

This is a short, but very soothing listen of how a life is formed and what jewel has done with her experiences. I came away with a deeper understanding who she is and what drives her.
I am impressed with her positive and yet quiet demeanor and how she can learn from everything around her. It’s reassuring to hear someone has created a life of doing what they love and giving back to humanity in a gentle/quiet way.
I remember her at the coffee shop and all the times I’ve seen her at humphreys and around town. She was always genuine and this book shows it.

Jewel is a beautiful writer.

I loved listening to her narration and her writing is beautiful.
What an interesting way of connecting with people, sharing experiences and sending out a message of continious personal growth. And all in one book.
Chasing Down The Dawn reminded me a lot of her most recent book Never Broken, which has the same positive messages, but of course different stories that weren't shared in this book. Both are worth a read or listen if you are a Jewel fan of you just enjoy listening to interesting stories of other people's lives, learning some insight about song writting and also great advice on finding yourself through working on yourself and creating your own personal happiness.

Beautiful and Endearing

I finish feeling peace, and like I've learned a lot without being lectured. There is nobody like Jewel.

PG Rated

Unfortunately, Jewel didn't talk about sex like she did in A Night Without Armor.
Her voice however was recorded much better.
