Publisher's summary

Pandora has been under the care of The Sapient since she was a young child. This is the life that she knows. When an army of men from The Order led by Aiden Ripley break into the prison in which she is kept, she is forced to make the decision to stay or leave. What The Order does not know is that Pandora's captivity is for the good of all men. Once her abilities have been unleashed, terror and death will rain down on everyone around her.

Convinced that she can control her abilities and live as normal as is possible within the care of The Order, Pandora leaves her captors. Pandora comes to be known as simply Dora to those she befriends. She forms a fast bond with those around her while hiding her capabilities for fear of dismissal. However, when the lives of those she loves are endangered by the very same men she had escaped she is forced to make one of the hardest choices of her life. All decisions are based on possibilities and chances. Whether the results are joyful or dire rests in the hands of a young woman who knows nothing save for the life lived as a captive with clutches for the control to reign herself and her abilities.

"Chance knows not of the divine, nor the strands of fate. It is but a ripple in our precarious existence, easily overseen, seldom noticed."

Better than the last & fantastic series!

I read these out of order since this book was the only one available on Audible at first, which I wouldn’t recommend, but at the same time, it really didn’t hurt the experience at all, because each book focuses on telling the backstory of a different character so it really was OK. They get more and more action as they go, and I like that this book started strong with more action than the last one, weaving in theromantic parts throughout it, but not honing in on it for too long, which is just my personal preference. I did not like this narrator. She is certainly tolerable and by all means not so bad that you shouldn’t listen to the book, but she’s only a few points better than listening to Siri narrate a book, getting better at some points, but largely sounding devoid of emotion. The only character she changed her voice for at all was a robot, but even then she wasn’t at all consistent with how she made it sound, and her first attempt at the voice she gave it was really bad and sounded like a frog despite it being described as having a cute voice. She also wasn’t consistent nor good at giving proper pauses between chapters and alternating points of view, which sometimes made it confusing. And the chapters assigned aren’t correct all the way through. I know I was on what was labeled as chapter 17 when her voice told me chapter 16. Again, it’s not a big deal in the scheme of things but as a person who listens to loads of audiobooks, I have to point it out. A less than ideal narrator really does detract from a great book, but this is a really great book and the series is fantastic. The narrator of the third book does character voices and the main character in that one is really funny! Great series though! Lots of awesome characters & I’m looking forward to the 4th book!
